I'm a Graphic & Web Designer from Bangalore. I'm looking for a best PC to build a good creative workstation with Photoshop CS2, CorelDraw X3, Dreamweaver 8, Flash 8, occasianally 3DSMax and Gaming. Suggest me a good PC configuration out of AMD Athlon X2 3800+ and Intel Core 2Duo E6300. If possible please suggest a good budget motherboad & chipset for the selected processor.

Thank you very much in advance.

Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 does perform better than the Athlon X2 3800 but not by much and it depends on the actual budget of the motherboard i would say get intel 965 chipset i hear its good but if thats still too high then maybe 945 chipset..its not as good but its cheaper..

and no phillip AM2 socket probably won't support quad core...AMD 4x4 came out in Socket F the same socket as Opteron..AMD's dual dual core which is 2 dual cores on 2 sockets and the AMD K8L their native quad core will probably come out in AM3 socket.

The E6300 is a better performer than the 3800+.
It would take an AMD X2 4600+ or greater to equal it.

Go for a higher end AMD. They come with an AM2 CPU socket that will also support upcoming quad core processors. Intel does not offer this luxury.

The Core 2 Duos have been coming out on top on most PC hardware websites.

*I* would suggest a core 2 duo with a Nvidia 590 motherboard running a raid 0+1 configuration for performance and data security and an ATI X1950 graphics card.

I just built myself a new system and the core 2duo is better than anything out. Even the cheapest one is better than almost anything that was out before it. Besides, I have always thought that for things that require a lot of math, that Intel has always had an edge. Here's a 3DS Max benchmark:

I like this board

It's got a nice intel chipset, and it'll take a quad core someday (which might save you money down the road)

PS: that board and cpu combo will let you overclock that cpu to like 1.5 times it's native speed

that E2160 will KILL the AMD as quickly as you overclock it previous 3.0Ghz this is extremely possible on inventory cooling. and what's with the guy that broadcasts that the AMD will burn CDs quicker? Are you loopy? That has to do with the fee of your optical stress, no longer the CPU...

i'd just pick AMD, maybe a strong one like 4200+ or 4600+, cuz Intel is too expensive right now......for the performance it delivers compared to the AMD's performance..

For graphics AMD is the best and for the mother board ASUS is the best.
