Hey everyone,

My brother's fiance told me about this place, so I thought I'd try it out. I feel embarassed that I'm a tech geek who doesn't have all his files backed up, except some code backed up on a small USB flash drive.

Can you guys offer advice for what kind of a hard drive I should look for? The only brands I've heard good things about are Seagate and Maxtor. What should I look for when buying one and what's just useless fluff? I'm thinking that a external USB 2.0 would be best.

Also, any site where I can get a good deal? Or should I just browse pricewatch, fatwallet, pricegrabber, and newegg? I'm looking to spend $100 or less. I'd like at least 40 GB so that I can use it for many years to come, but I don't think I'll need 100s of GB or anything like that; I'd rather spend the extra cash on speed and reliability.

If you guys use any free backup software (or cheap software that's really good), recommendations would be appreciated there.

Thanks,

Elton

I am currently using an IBM T60 DuoCore Centrino with 2gb of RAM with an external 17" monitor in Windows XP extended mode. Can I use the LCD off an old laptop instead? It would be great if I could strip out an old ThinkPad to haul around with me. What components would I need to leave in (or obtain) to power up the old LCD and put a VGA input into it?

Everyone has been telling me that AMD processors are better than Intel's, however all the AMD one's I've been looking at (Namely the FX) are slower than Intel's. So like uh...what's the deal. I just use my computer for games, and I heard the FX was the one to get but its slower than the Intel's processors (I have a Intel Dual Core 3.2GHz, the fastest FX I've found is 2.8 GHz) so I need someone (or alot of people) to set the record strait. Oh...and when comparing processors, use the same level (for instance, compare a AMD dual core to a Intel Dual core or a 64 bit processor to a 64 bit processor.)

Actually I was updating my Windows from Web all of a sudden a message " That my windows are not genuine" started coming. Even I am unaware that my Windows are genuine or not as my computer vendor has installed them. On recieving this message I had restored my PC to an earlier point after which that message was stopped. Please guide me that whether Microsoft via any means trace my location & file a case/raid against me.(I am already in talk with my vendor in this regards)

Hi, i am trying to build a custom pc, and i know that the motherboard should not touch the back metal panel. So if you don't have anything else to separate the two, can you just use duct tape and cover the back metal or could the tape melt? Any advice thanks.

This is really annoying. When I play a game on my PC this really high tone, high frequency sound starts coming out of my monitor. It also happens when visualisations in Windows media player are in full screen mode. Could someone tell me how I could get rid of this. Thanks in advance.

I ask this because only when the surger protector is on does the green LED light labeled "Protected" come on. If it's not turned on, does that mean the appliances attached to the surger protector aren't properly protected even if they're turned off?
