do you have an isp or are you trying to gain internet access at an internet cafe? if you don't have internet access try this:

click on the start button (bottom left corner of your screen) >click on run > then enter "cmd"
(without the quotes)

then type in "ipconfig /release" and press enter
then type "ipconfig /renew"
then type "exit"
(again without the quotes)

try to access the internet if that doesn't work do the following:
(for windows xp sp2 only)

click on the start button (bottom left corner of your screen) >click on run > then enter "netsh winsock reset"
(without the quotes)

A cmd prompt screen will flash open and closed and then you can try again to access the internet.

you may need to repeat step 1 after running the netsh winsock reset.

But, as already mentioned in a previous answer, just seeing a network doesn' mean that you can connect and get an ip address.

It probably sees networks, but if they are secure you will not get an IP address assigned to your laptop. That is why you cannot get to the internet. No IP address, no surfing. You would need the SSID and passkey of those networks in order to connect and get to the internet.
