I am currently using an IBM T60 DuoCore Centrino with 2gb of RAM with an external 17" monitor in Windows XP extended mode. Can I use the LCD off an old laptop instead? It would be great if I could strip out an old ThinkPad to haul around with me. What components would I need to leave in (or obtain) to power up the old LCD and put a VGA input into it?

Unless you know exactly what you're doing, or know a really good tech, I wouldn't attempt such a thing. However, I do know that there is some software out there that allows you to turn your laptop into a monitor. Haven't used it myself and don't know if it'll work with an older laptop, but that might be the better route.

Well, yes, but you have to have a good idea of micro circutry, and be able to micro solder, also the power input for the screen is in the hinge, so it would really not be worth all the work to get this idea to work, and then the process to actually hook it to the computer, you would need some sort of video out or another video card, and building that cable/circuit would probably be very frustrating, you have to know what pin in each circuit does, and one side may not match the other.

do no longer use alcohol or ANY purifier of ANY type except said in the different case contained in the guide, no remember how secure the cleansing product claims it to be. once you have not got any guide or the guide doesn't element out a thanks to sparkling the exhibit screen, then use water (ideally mineral-free) and a cleansing textile. it is because pc monitors have a protecting layer that ward off it from turning yellow and forestall different age appropriate deterioration. some cleaners strip the exhibit screen of this protecting layer. Alcohol is extremely harsh and that i propose under no circumstances utilising it, except said in the different case by technique of the guide.
