i bught some Memorex CD-RW but every time i try to burn it it says that there is no cd in the drive but i tryed with some CD-R and it work how do i fix this problem?

I am planning to purchase a Notebook pc. I would like it to be fast and operate smoothly(fast processor and lots of RAM). The only networking device i need is WiFi, and while i don't play games very often, i would like the ability to play modern 3d games on the occasion that i do. with my old one i was unable to install games because it did not have a 3d accelorater, so this time around i want to get a machine with one of those. as far as size goes, small and thin is good. I am considering a cd/dvd burner, but im not sure if i want that, because i'm trying to stay below $1,000. I would like to find the best deal on this machine that i can, so the cheaper, the better. my goal is $1000 or below, but i may go over. I need a full warranty that will cover accidents that are my fault such as droppages, spillage, or electrical shock. Thank you very much for your help!

My computer was damaged by a squirrel that chewed it way into my dorm room, ive replaced all the damaged components, but the computer wont accept any keyboard and wont accept any commands, im assuming something got shorted. i know its hard to tell the price without actually looking at it, but what would the approxamate price on that be?

i have 2 radeon 9250,s one with 256mb (on my main p.c)and a 128mb model(on 2nd system)
they both are very reliable,but i ahve been told they are only shader and pixel model 1.0,and i should be looking at 3.0 for up-to-date quality graphics
i looked around the net and found a ge-force fx5500, for £45,which has pixel and shader model 3.0
so my question is,is that card worth getting or can anyone recommend a decent graphics card for around £40 to £90(agp)
needless to say,i can still play all the latest games(doom3,quake4,far cry,f.e.a.r),allthough only at 1024x768,but that does me
any suggestions?

I have switched power cables, eliminated drives, etc. For example, I took the power connection that was supplying power to the CD-ROM drive and hooked it to the hard drive: nothing. The hard drive works fine. I put it into another computer and it fired up fine. I could access it ok. Why will my power supply not power the hard drive?

I bought an ATI Radeon All in Wonder 9000, Phillips TV-Tuner, AGP PCI card, but it doesn't fit my old PC's PCI slot.

i keep hearing about heavy duty shredder, sledgehammer, letting it soak in special acid. is there a place that specializes in doing this or renting this stuff without buying it? there must be a service that has a self-serve to physically destroy a hard drive, what would i look under the yellow pages for?

My friend installed a second hard drive in his computer, and Windows designated them like this:
C: 1st HD
D:1st DVD drive
E: 2nd DVD drive
F: 2nd HD

He would prefer it like this:
C: 1st HD
D: 2nd HD

Don't worry, not a wanted ad! I am looking for a laptop with decent battery life, 256mb ram, XP (although not essential), USB port and the ability to connect wirelessly to Tiscali Broadband. Am I in cloud cuckoo or is this a possibility? What models should I be looking at? Its for my wifes midwifery course so it only needs to be able handle Internet, email and word processing.
