Did you check the modem to see if it is even working? Try using the dialer program to see if you can dial directly. If not then you may have corrupted drivers or no drivers loaded for the modem. Go to control panel - modem and see if it is listed and what com port it is on. Then make sure nothing else is using that com port (like the mouse). If necessary you can try reloading the drivers by doing an update - kind of hard to go further without know what OS you are using.
