That is a hard question. If you are a very careful person and take care of your stuff, you do not need the warranty. But if something does happen to a laptop, you could spend well over 300 dollars to fix it. If a screen goes out, and is covered by warranty, you just saved yourself a lot of money, (my laptop screen would have costed 800 to fix). Most manufacturers already carry a 1 year warranty. With a laptop, if you have it for three years, you will be out of date. That is one problem with technology. I usually stay with the one year warranty and do not get the extended warranty. I have never had a problem with a laptop after a year. So the extended warranty is not helpful. If a laptop has problems, it is usually in the beginning because of a manufacturer defect. I say if you can take care of stuff, no do not get the extended warranty. Save your money.

I would not. Most computers, if they go bad, will be within the first 2-3 months. If this happens, the manufacture warranty will cover you. Long term coverage basically makes you pay more for your computer. Most computers will not mess up during the period you get coverage for. In my past I have purchased 6 computers and of them, one was bad. I got that computer fixed for $80. If I had bought a warranty for each computer, it would have cost me over $700. You do the math.

I used to sell computers and the service plans that go with them. If you are buying a laptop then certainly buy it, they are nearly impossible to fix on your own (or by a friend). This means you have to pay someone to put in very specialized parts which is pricey. Additionally, the screen is worth more than the 300 dollars so if it goes out (which they sometimes do) you'll have saved yourself.

Well, every computer that we DIDN'T have a warrantee went totally bonkers and nuts. Our most recent computer (2.5 years old) we got the 3 year warrentee and there isn't a thing wrong with it so far! It's like taking an umbrella with you to ward off alligators. You don't see any alligators, do you? See! It works! But if you didn't have that umbrella handy...shudder...at any moment an alligator could come leaping out of the bushes to devour you! Why take the chance?

Depending... It's a lot of money if the macbook is for private use.
Do you intend to keep it at all for such a long time?
Perhaps you can go for a 2-year-warranty - or is that included anyway?

No, I do not think so... technology is constantly changing.
In 3 years I am sure your computer would probably be a little out dated with the new options that would be available then.
Make sure you shop around before you buy your new one, get a good price. There are lots of sales now.

No. If your computer mucks up the $300 can go towards that. If it doesn't, you've saved $300.
