If I'm not mistaken Alienware came out with a brand new gaming laptop series, the smallest of which is called the M11x, will run you around 700$ Basic, with spare cash for some extra upgrades, otherwise its a solid contender.

TRY AN HP LAPTOP, TRY GETTING ONE FROM STAPLES. THEY COST UNDER $900 - BUT WITH 3YR WARANTY, THEY MAY COST A BIT MORE.
YOU CAN ALWAYS CHECK OUT DELL.COM, THEY HAVE A HUGE VARIETY - IT DEPENDS ON WHAT FEATURES YOU WANT ADDED.

It depends on what you mean by "BEST". Best at what? Are you wanting to play games? Do graphics\Video\DVDs?
Or, are you simply going to use it for school\work?
