Do I need a firewall? I am using a version of Xandros for reference. Its the one on the eee pc. And how do firewalls work. I can't get a straight answer. One person says its like running windows without a firewall, another says its more secure then vista, another says Linux is a firewall itself, another says its highly vulnerable. So what is it and how does it work? I am good at XP and understand it well, but Linux is so confusing cause it seems no one else knows exactly what it is.

So, How secure is it and what firewall do I need if I need one?

I have a dell latitude cpi laptop, and it is windows xp, but it is below service pack 2. I cannot upgrade to internet explorer 7 because of this and i cannot install zune sotware from the internet or from the cd because of this. But whenever i put in the windows xp service pack 2 disk, it ways that my laptop is not compaable for this. Is there any way i can make it compadible for windows xp service pack 2? Thank you for your help!

I have a pretty sweet rig right now with 3GBs or ram but have the capability to add up to 8gigs ( 2gb x 4 ) and plan to do that once i upgrade to the windows 64bit OS. My friend told me that 2gb sticks have heat issues and "require" a heat sink or a special fan to keep them cool. Is this true or bull?

I want to know if I should use the 32 bit or 64 bit version of Ubuntu and why. Is one faster and more efficient? My computer is an Intel e6600, nvidia 8800 gts 640 overclocked, 4 gb ddr2 800, asus p5n-e sli. I have plenty of disk space as well. Is there anything else I should know about Ubuntu in general? so it was snowing pretty bad and my pc was on power went out and when i turned it back on it worked but no programs wanna open i kno i can fix it if i do a system restore but that takes awhile anyone else know any other solution?

i have an hp pavilion dv6000, vista is saved to the hard drive instead of on a cd. i know how to reload vista so that it clears my entire system, which is what i want to do. but how do i open up the screen to do this? my desktop at home tells me to press a button when its starting up but this laptop does not.
