there is one processor in a typical, store bought PC.

If you open your computer case, you will see a fan and heatsink (or tubes filled with water if your computer is very powerful). Underneath that is your CPU.

(ok, there are other processors, like the GPU in a video card, the main one is the CPU, underneath the thing that cools it.

Depends on the model.

Older machines and some modern low-end machines have one processor sitting in a socket on the biggest board in the chassis (usually its the biggest, anyway). That is called the motherboard - because it is a "mother" to fix if it breaks. The younger kids will tell you other answers. I've been in the business 35+ years. Trust me, names applied to such things are rarely offered gently.

Newer machines have something called a dual-core CPU - which has two processors on the same chip. Different socket, same location. If you didn't read the label or know ahead of time, you would think it was just a really big chip.

As computers go up the price scale, you get to quad processors (4 on a chip) and from there to blade servers where the computer chassis has an extended backplane. You plug "blades" with up to 4 processors on the blade to build a massively parallel system. For IBM systems, the blade holds a Xeon chip with four processors on-board PER BLADE. So it becomes easy to talk about 20, 30, 50, or even 100 processors in a single blade system.

As to more details, every maker of computers has their own way of laying things out, but USUALLY the processors are on the middle part away from all the backplane interfaces and the disk interfaces.

It depends. One diecast of CPU underneath a heatsink (currently very huge) that is the kind of stuff you typically can buy in stores. Going back about a decade you would find 1st generation Dual Processor for SOHO setup that actually span on two diecasts.

But Cores are different matter, although in typical store you will not find cores that spread out to more than 1 die.

Or else you want to count all the bridgers, GPU, converter chips?

sounds like home work,,,,,,

hmmmmm should i help you or not, that is a real dilemma, on one hand i will help you solve it, but not help you learn. on the other hdn you need to learn it for yourself.

I know, a hint maybe .....

there are several. really! there is the 'star' that is the CPU "Central Processing Unit" there are the North and South bridge chips (which are also processors) then there are many 'optional' chips,

so the short of it is the actual number of processors vary depending upon the design of the motherboard and the number of integrated components.

the answer would depend entirely upon what you're using as a definition of a processor and which mobo you are speaking about.

If you are asking about the CPU then that is still mobo specific and computer specific. But the answer for the most part it one CPU, some mobo's have more, and some computer have many many more. but the average computer has one CPU.

They are on the mother board. You can have, as of now 2. Or 2 Dual core and that would mean you have a total of four processors on board and they will be the ones with the big fans on them. As of now there are no mother boards that take two quad core processors. Also there are video and audio processors as well.

any computer will have only one computer except balde servers.

You can find it mounted on your mother board. Over that their will be a huge Heatsink sitting on it and over that you will find FAN.

irrestpective of model like dual processor, or core 2 duo or quadra core all are called artichecture but the processor remains single.

one standard, two sometimes on mobo, or one on mobo, and one on video card. depends. generally on NON server systems, only one, core duo and ht technology makes them seem and act like two, but there is only one.
they are on the motherboard, below the fan, and on the video card.

One processor, on your motherboard.
