I've used a free service from zamzar.com. You put in the link to the video you want, then select the format you would like to have it in, then give your email address. The website will show the progress of retrieving the video and you will receive an email with a link to download the video.
I did see there were other options out there that use software you install. They most likely have many other features as well. The zamzar web application is quick and easy.
