I have a 10 month old laptop running on win xp MDC, 18gb available HD space remaining , 700+ mb of ram... Power saving options set to turn off Monitor and HD after 15 and 30 min respectively....after hours of leaving my laptop, the display wont come back even by using my usb mouse and keyboard although I can hear sounds that its waking up.... waited for a minute or so...

IF i try to ascsess Youtube via proxy on my ipod touch at school with youtube being a banned site could i get traced to my ipod or since it is the schools internet would it just be traced to the schools ip. I want to share picture & document files with friends. Some are too large to break down into emails.I can't figure out how to convert it to or even use the Adobe Reader. How do you even activate to AR blackboard? I can't get anything to happen. I receive things from others that open in AR - it's got to be something simple but I can't find out how?

Help! Just recently all my usb devices (3 flash drives, my linksys usb wifi adapter, and my usb hub) won't work! I have an epox motherboard (supports usb 2) and Vista Ultimate OS. All worked well just last week but now my usb devices wouldn't install. My usb flashdrives come up as blanks but when I try them on other computers they work just fine! My linksys usb wifi adapter (which I am using to connect to the net won't install and come up as "unknown USB device"... same for my usb hub. Is it a virus or is the problem with my motherboard? I think it's the latter because I have no problems whatsoever in using my cpu save for everything that I connect to my USB ports.

For some reason, one day I opened up my Internet Explorer and it won't open, but it does open on a different browser such as AOL Internet Explorer, but I'd rather use Internet Explorer. Anyway, I ran a Network Diagnostics for Windows XP and it says

"Windows cannot connect to the Internet using HTTP, HTTPS, or FTP. This is probably caused by firewall settings on this computer.

Check the firewall settings for the HTTP port (80), HTTPS port (443), and FTP port (21)

You might need to contact your Internet Service Provider (ISP) or the manufacturer of your firewall software."

On a Dell Laptop, we have had a recurring problem with the Normal.dot template on Word. This problem exists in Word 2000, XP, 2003, and now 2007. The Word Normal template changes to remove the top and bottom margins, starting all lines at the very top edge of the page, and ending at the bottom edge. The vertical ruler is there, but you cannot adjust the margins on it. Even adjusting the margins in the menu won't change it. The reason for this is that the margins haven't really changed, it prints normally. It only appears on the screen messed up. This causes pagination problems, as it adjusts for the margins when you print. I have tried deleting the normal.dot template, but it re-creates it the wrong way. I have tried copying the normal.dot template from several other computers, but it still opens it the wrong way. The only thing that has worked in the past has been to back everything up and run a full restore. I would like to skip this drastic step, suggestions?

Ok... I recently put in a new power supply in my computer because with the old one the computer would turn on for about 10 seconds and automatically turn off. Well after putting the new power supply in, the computer stays on but makes like 10 beeping noises when it boots up. My problem is, my monitor is not getting a signal from the computer so I am not getting a display. I have tried TWO different working monitors. Now, I recently realized that there is no ram sticks in the two slots that my computer has. A couple people on here were saying that the computer wouldn't run without the RAM. Well im positive there is none, yet the computer still stays on. Does any one know what store sells RAM and if having none could be the reason my monitor isn't working?

I gave my son my old desktop. Somehow he crashed the system (go figure). I can not find the original restore disk for this system, since it is a few years old. Nonetheless, I tried to use my xp home disk to reinstall windows on it. When it came the time to type in the key, I used the key that came with the system on the back of the desktop and it said the key is invalid. How is that possible? Isn't the key associated with the parameters of that machine? Shouldn't it recognize it? Please help me, since my son is driving me crazy without his computer.

Ok, so i just started my own little website... www.rybomedia.com...i know, it's not much but i've had school and haven't had a lot of time to work on it...my idea is to have people submit their artwork to the site to be displayed...if you click on the "Submit Art" link, you'll see that i already have the form set up...however, it uses the mailto feature, which i don't want, plus it won't mail files...i downloaded a PERL cgi script, but am confused about what to do next...ANY tips would be great...thanks...

I'm a programmer (Perl, some very basic Java) and have turned to writing a batch script for work.

What I want to do is ping a server and IF it's a success, GOTO line, if not GO TO line.

How do you check results in batch? Is there a way? Any sort of variables, regexes, etc?
