Ok... I recently put in a new power supply in my computer because with the old one the computer would turn on for about 10 seconds and automatically turn off. Well after putting the new power supply in, the computer stays on but makes like 10 beeping noises when it boots up. My problem is, my monitor is not getting a signal from the computer so I am not getting a display. I have tried TWO different working monitors. Now, I recently realized that there is no ram sticks in the two slots that my computer has. A couple people on here were saying that the computer wouldn't run without the RAM. Well im positive there is none, yet the computer still stays on. Does any one know what store sells RAM and if having none could be the reason my monitor isn't working?

Wow this is remarkably easy to understand, I cannot fathom why no one else has. It will turn on with no RAM, but it won't do anything without any RAM, except make the beeping noises to tell you that you have no RAM. And becasue it can't do anything, it doesn't send anything to the monitor, which is why you are getting no picture. Anyway, as for where to buy RAM, I would recommend you go here:http://www.newegg.com/ if you need help with which type, email me with your model number.

Forget your monitor. Its nothing to do with the problem you have.

Computers need RAM to work end of.

If you have no RAM in the memory slots then the only answer to that is either a gremlin stole it when you werent looking or it has onboard RAM. In other words there will be a small amount built directly onto the mainboard (motherboard).

The beeps you here are likely because:

1. The video/graphics card is not seated correctly.... if it has one, take it out and reseat it.

2. RAM chip is missing or not seated in the right slot or not seated properly. Do the above.

3. No CPU installed. Install one.

4. Something is faulty.

Take everything out, reseat everything, then try again.

The power is turning the system partly on but is not going any further because you have something missing/faulty/not seated correctly. The monitor does not come on because the system hasn't got to the stage of initiating the video card or anything else for that matter.

At switch-on, a PC runs a POST (power on self test).More than 1 beep indicates a problem. You need to consult your motherboard manufacturer to find out what different numbers of beeps means (the number is specific to the whereabouts of the problem).
No RAM is the likely fault, but check everything else as well.

P.S. your PC is NOT working, the lights just mean that there is power into the system.

Since this is a new power supply, have you hooked up all the cables including the one to the motherboard ?

The 10 beeps are codes indicating something is wrong with your computer BIOS or System settings.

Do a search on Yahoo or Google for ' bios beeps ' ( without the quotes ) or possibly bios codes.

No RAM chips ? Mucho problemo my friend. Windows XP requires a minimum of 128MB of ram just to work.

You may have knocked your video card loose when you installed the new power supply. Crack open the case and try reseating it.

If it still doesn't boot up, and you're positive those memory slots are empty, take a run to Compusa or Bestbuy. Write down your computer model number before you head out so they can help you pick out what you need.

no having no RAM shouldn't mean that your monitor doesn't work.

you can get RAM chips just about anywhere from 10$ to 100$. you just need to make sure they're compatible with your motherboard and CPU.

Take apart all connections to motherboard and put it back together...If it is beeping 10 times you need to check your bias battery/switch settings
