depends on what size monitor you want, how light or heavy, how fast of a processor, how much ram, how big a hard drive, how many usb and firewire ports, if you want all sorts of other things.

sounds like you do nothing other than surf the net so just spend $499 on a dell inspiron 1501 and be happy for 3-5 years

I don't know if people will agree with me but I am on an HP laptop right now and I love it. It does everything I want it to do. I paid $900 for mine but trust me you can find one for the budget you are looking for. I have also been told that mac's and sony vaio's are the best. I personally think they all do the same thing its just the name that most people pay for, but whats inside is what really matters. If you're not into HP look at Dell, Compaq and Toshiba also. Acer is another brand to look at. I must also mention to make sure you get NO less than 1gig of RAM for Vista as most laptops come with it installed. In any event, Walmart is a good place to look for your budget. They sell all the laptops I named except for mac's of course that are very expensive. Again, its not the name thats important, its whats inside. Good luck.

This all depends on what you are looking for, looking to spend, and whether looks matter. If you are looking for a simple laptop for web surfing and "office" applications, then an HP DV2000 series is fine. If you are looking for something with more power say for photoshop or 3d modeling, you would want a more expensive Sager notebook. Sager Uses the same ODM as Voodoo PC used to (when they weren't owned by HP). If you are on a budget an hp is a great computer. Less of a budget buy a Sager. No budget: Voodo.

hmmm, well u could try getting a hp, a cheep one will work good, or a apple. I'm finding that i really like apples and I've had pic's all my life. But one thing for sure DO NOT get a dell. As much as they can be cheaper from time to time i find them to be more trouble then the bargain. The company tends to use cheaper (by cheaper i mean plastic) parts for the computer and they break faster. especially the cd burners and all that jazz. They do have good customer support and if your computer is covered then its a bit safer to get. But then again when you have to get your computer fixed you have to talk to someone over in India and its really really hard to understand them. Just make sure if your doing photos get a good screen and video card, the pic will look nicer. and of course some good memorie in it too. If you need any help i don't mind a email from you if you want.

Check MDG.com, better than Dell and cheaper than HPs and can look nicer than most laptops out there (other than stylish Sony Vaios which is only good for looks). You can get a decent laptop for just surfing purposes from around $200-500 with diff specs. Its a Canadian company but a GREAT company, you can get decent and great computers at a really low price that'll last a LONG time and great warranty.

If you just want it for internet/pictures *please* dont dish out 750. You can internet/pictures just fine on a 200$ laptop, and if you want something pretty you can get it at >400$. But 750? I paid 400 for mine and i use it to play the latest games, its 4 months old, has EVERYTHING and looks stunning. Sure it goes for 1k in stores but i got it on ebay :) Great place to get computers.

Actually i sell laptops on ebay and i have a nice one for 450 if your interested ill post it so you can buy it through ebay (if you pay through paypal (ebays money transfer service) your covered for up to 2000$ if you get screwed)

I have an inspiron 1501 from dell its great but if you get any laptop look for windows xp. The inspiron laptops are great. The 1501 may not have an Intel processor but it has AMD which is very good. You should try it.

I'm not going to tell you that you can find what you want for the price - maybe you can. I'm writing this from a 4 year old dell Inspiron that has never failed me! It will do pictures, and has. I have Microsoft Office on it, and use Excel and word a lot in my work. Get a Dell catalogue and find what you want - get the second smallest and second lightest, and when you find what you want, try to get a second battery from them, too!

The best model I have found is the Dell Latitude D600 with 1Gb of memory.

This is mainly because when I sell one the customer is happy and I DON'T get them back.
