One is $40 more than the other and has a 2Mb L2 Cache while the other has a 1Mb L2 Cache. How much of a difference does the cache actually make?

Umm, ignore the first answer, he really is out of the loop. These two are exactly the same chip, except for the amount of cache. On a lot of things there will be no difference, but if you are looking to play games, you probably should get the one with the extra cache, it will have an effect there.

While I am kinda out of the loop on these things now. The core duo is actually a single core chip. That tries to work as a dual core. Meaning 2 chip in one. You will be better off with the actual dual core.

I went thru the same thing on a laptop. And ended up with the core 2. just because of cost and such.
