Hallo!

I just downloaded and installed Ubuntu vers 7 (I burned it and created a live CD for now). I have used linux before in my high school computer repair class, but not ubuntu and we didn't go into depth.

I am just playing around learning it, but a hinderence is the fact that the internet won't work.

My parents have a wirelss router setup, and im trying to connect to that, (it is encrypted).

I have a windows xp media center, 1gig ddr ram, ati mobility radeon x600 256MB graphics card, AMD 64 mobile Athelon processor Gateway Notebook.

Any help? Also, could someone please elaborate on ubuntus versio of the CLI? can't remember what it's called right now, srry.

i currently have 3 other empty pci slots on my tower, i have one 256mb nvidia geforce fx 5200 installed in, if i buy another 256mb nvidia geforce fx 5200 graphics card and install it into one of the other available slots would my graphics card then be 512MBs and make my games run even smoother or would that 256mb not really make a difference?

I bought a Gateway that has an Realtek 8185 extensible wireless device built in. What do I have to do to have a wireless connection. I have a motorola router but it only lets me hook up with a ethernet cable. What do I need? The whole kit with the slip in card or just a wireless router?

Now, heres the situation...i am developing a program that uses ActiveX controls that is only available in my computer because i installed vb6 on it....the program that i am developing is not on vb6...and i cannot make any executable in the current program language that i am using.........

The question is..how can i make the ActiveX controls that i am using be available at the client side without having to install at their computer vb6?...is there any package that will install ActiveX controls that is present in the installation of vb6??....if there is, how can i get it?....is it for free???....

My cousin just gave me an Compaq Evo N115 that her school gave her. She hasnt used the computer in like a year. The problem is that she forgot the password. When I cut on the computer the log-in screen doesnt look like all of the other windows log-in screen. On this screen a box pops up with her name and ask her for the password, but i dont know the password. I tried doing the F8 key i went through all that but it still asked me for the password. Can anyone help me get into this computer??????????????

I tried to start my computer this morning but the windows won't start and give the following message on the monitor.

" Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt.
\windows\system32\config\...
you can attempt to repair this file by starting windows setup using this original CD-ROM
Select "r" at the first screen to start repair"

Then I did what it tells to do. Inserted the windows set up CD and started the repair. But when it started, a message jumps out and reads
"Which Windows installation would you like to log into"
and you can only type one letter. What should I type to continue the repairing process?

Ok now that i got your atention ill tell you my problem. Ok i was on my computer and then my mom called me and told me to come eat i told my brother to shut down my comp but he instead put it on stand by and then when i went back on it was loading up like normal then one thing does not load up and it said NTLDR is missing press ctrl , alt , delete and it will restart your comp so i did and te same thing happened over and over. How can i fix this withot having to use a CD????? and my comp type is dell please tell me my parents will be so pissed and hit me so much if i dodnt fix it oh and if your wondering how i wrote this stuff im on my friends comp

My laptop is Celeron with 1.3 GHz, the desktop is Pentium 4 with 2.93 GHz. Obviously, the Pentium is better and faster, but is the difference really supposed to be that much? My laptop is so very slow to boot up. It's only one year old, and just recently really being used. I did load Office on it, but the desktop also has it and it moves at a normal/fast speed at 2 years old and used all the time. The Celeron is just so frustrating (if that is the problem), before I spend money to upgrade I need to know if it is worth it. Oh, have good firewalls on both, so the laptop is not infected. I'm sure about that. It has always been slow. Thanks.

I had installed AVG Antivirus some days back..then today I came across comodo Firewall and Antivirus s/w. So I installed the latter. It asked for an option to remove the AVG s/w and I gave the acceptance. But now AVG is not removed and Comodo is installed too. So I guess there is a conflict between the two and my laptop is going too slow.


How do I fix this?? PLZZZ help!

My hard drive size keeps going up and down.. It's suppose to be about 50 gigs left but it was down to 785 MB earlier, I thought it was me being careless so I deleted some stuff and it went to 13 gig free, then it dropped back to 6 gig when I checked. Anybody know what I should do? If you're not an expert, I would suggest you kept your opinions to yourself.
