This is a little known fact and is only being shared as the question is so rarely asked..... The words are not actually 'written' but more like painted by one of at least five to six hundred miniature (peppercorn size) people inside the average 15inch monitor (more as the screen size increases). These miniature ar-teests are lined up in rows and columns and each has three tiny buckets of paint (one in each of red, green and blue from which each conceivable color can be created). There is a team leader who receives your keystrokes on his/her miniature blackberry who proceeds to scream out (if you place your ear next to the screen you'll hear what sounds much like a hum) orders to color the screen. For example I type the words 'what kind of a weird question is this' and the person in R1C1 (row1, column 1) gets the order to paint a letter 'w', the person in R1C2 gets the order to paint the letter 'h', the person in R1C3 gets the order to paint the letter 'a' continuing to the last letter which is an 's' which happens to be in R1C37. This is strenuous work and everyone eventually gets a bit of a rest when they are ordered to do nothing as is the case for the spaces between words....

Don't know if this helps - if it does great, if it doesn't.... hey, I tried !

eNaR: how beautifully said! The reality is so much more boring.
Check Wikipedia on screens.
Your PC screen is nothing else but a TV screen (same principle) for the CRT (cathod ray tubes), or a plasma screen.
The letter "A" is "written" as a series of tiny dots (the "o"s)
xxxoxxx
xxoxoxx
xoxxxox
oxxxxxo
oooooo
oxxxxxo
oxxxxxo

Take a magnifying glass and look at your screen.
