If the Gateway is set up for wireless then you need a wireless router. You can get a wired/wireless one fairly cheaply these days unless you want the latest protocol. Keep in mind that wireless is usually slower than wired but if your connection is high speed that should not make a difference. If your connection is slow (not dial-up but more like the cheap DSL of 784) then you would see a difference.

The easiest solution would be for you to buy a wireless router or access point to spread the wireless signal to your new computer. Depending on your Internet Service Provider you might just be able to call them and they will send someone to make your internet connection wireless for you. Since you have a Motorola router/modem, I think you have Roadrunner, and I don't know if they charge for the wireless hookup, I have AT&T DSL and they send you everything with easy instructions on how to install everything, E-mail me if you need any help with anything. :)

If the machine had wireless built in, all you need is a wireless router.
Its fairly simple to setup. When you get the router turn it on, turn your laptop on.
In your system tray, there will be a little icon with two computers and a signal leaving them.
Double click on that and then connect to the connection with the strongest signal strenght (most likely yours).
Once you are connected and comfortable, you can tweak your settings later.

No you need a wireless adapter. You can get them at computer stores or just get them from your company or something. The wireless adapter kinda looks like a pager with a short atennae and you plug in a USB port on the back of your computer modem. And if you dont have drivers for the adapter you will need to install them maybe with a CD that comes with it or call and find out how to get the drivers for the adapter on your computer.
