tell me how to remove it from the internet explorer because everytime i open internet there are many pop-ups that aren't blocking maybe my computer will be virus again

We have a small network at home, with 4 PCs, through a central router. Just re-installed winXP on one of them.
LAN working fine: we can see each other, transfer files etc. The network is ok. All PCs, except the re-installed one have access to the Internet. The failing one confirms it is linked to the network (sees the others), but, when attempting to go to IE, the program always responds saying "page not found, not connected etc...".
WHAT have I forgotten to set up?

I have been running vista home preminum for 4+ months now, with no problems, except, I do not have a shortcut on my desktop for IE, I have searched and searched for the shortcut, can anyone enlighten me on this. Is there a place to go to in Vista that has the option for an IE shortcut. Thanks any help is greatly appreciated.

I have a computer, everything in it was brought seperately, but the motherboard is stock (not sure what brand).

The hard drive itself is from Western Digital (40GB)
There's a secondary 250 HD (not plugged in)
CD-R/RW and DVD Drives (1 of each)

Here's the situation... I turn the computer on and everything is working normally. Usually it will continue to work normally until I lock my session and leave the computer for a few hours and when I come back the computer has restarted itself.

Also when I'm working on it every so often, I can hear the hard drive stop spinning then begin again, and of course when the hard drive stops spinning the computer locks up and I'm forced to restart it.

I've done virus/spyware/trogan scans and nothing so it's not a virus... any other ideas? I'm open for ideas

Recently lines have been flickering on my screen, and i reduced my refresh rate from 75 to 60 which helped, but the lines keep coming back. My monitor might be getting worn out, but this is a real nice monitor and i was wondering if there's a way i could fix it? Thanks

the other day, on my old windows 98 computer it said invalid system disk.
We do not have out windows 98 CD, so i got a floppy disk and got did a disk scan.
It found some errors and fixed it, and windows now flashes to the loading screen then goes back to:

I am needing to buy a computer that will be good for my kids and myself for school. I know my kids will be wanting to buy games also so I need enough memory for that too.
