.pdf is a format for text files same as .doc in word files it's a useful format foe E-books, cos it's usually impossible to be change without the writers permission
and you need softwares such as FOXIT Reader V1.5 or Adobe Reader V7.0 or higher versions.

that's for acrobat reader. or if you have a pdf format file, you need to download an acrobat reader to read it.
