Is Linspire a good linux distro for someone who just wants to ditch Windows? And does it work with an HP Pavilion zd7000?

My computer has a very weird icon show up on the dest top, no idea why or what it is. Here is a picture.

I tried deleteing it but there are no right click options, also I've run ad-wear and anti-virus scan, with out any effect. I also used the show desk-top buttom and it removes it but once I click something it shows again. Another thing, I can move it around and everything. I've also restarted a few times.

Im running Windows XP any other info that my help just ask.

I am taking an on line class thru a local university, and need my computer! these ads keep popping up, I did the block all pop up thing, and still they come. also COMMERCIALS!!! blaring out of my speakers. I was late with a 5 minute quiz tonight becauseof all this,only got an 85 because I wasn't able to complete it. there are hair color ads coming out of my speakers, and all kinds of crazy ads popping up. I am desperate, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Okay. Recently I cannot login to anything online. I cant login to my Hotmail account, my Ebay account, or Xanga account. My Windows Media Player 11 also won't update and I can't login to any of my Istant Messaging things!!

I've defraggmented my hard drive, updated and checked my virus protection, deleted temporary internet files, tried a different web browser, and even did a system restore before all of this started happening but it still doesn't work! This has been happening to my mothers computer too!

Help!

better said, is there a free tool that will help me fix it. For example, when I turn it on, and the little bar appears under Windows XP like its loading, it takes ages.
I am almost positively sure the computer is acting like this because someone has been downloading or just corrupting it by doing wrong stuff. (Like disconecting the power source everytime it freezes..... that's my dad, who also spends up to eight hours a day playing solitaire and pressing yes on anything that pops up)
I tried system restore and it is the same. So, I thought also I could create recovery disks and then restore the computer to its state when new, it's an option it gives me.
Any better ideas?

I'm trying to install an old computer game on my current computer. It's Gizmos and Gadgets, released about 10 years ago, meant for windows95. I want to install it on my laptop which runs off of windows xp.

i installed it on my computer, but when i try to run it, it says that it cannot locate my/the correct MIDI file. and then closes down. it does not even give me the option of trying to locate a MIDI file.
what should i do?

I just recently installed .net framework 2.0 on an older PC that I had and it and then my PC crashed. I thought it crashed because it was getting old and just too much garbage had been downloaded to it. Needless to say I just ended up putting a new PC together. Last night I had to download .Net framework 2.0 to install a certain program. Not even 2 hours after I had downloaded it my new PC did the same thing my last one did. I formatted the HD and reinstalled my OS and now it works fine again. Are there common problems with that particular .Net Framework?

Well the good news is that I found the name of the Trojan Horse. It's Generic Adclicker.d. Plus I found some two other infections in my computer like Downloader-ABJ and Adware-BJCFD.

The bad news is that I don't know what kind of removal tools to use to get rid of them.
