CD-R disks exist. CD+R do not. that is the biggest difference.
DVD+R and DVD-R disks do exist. They are simply 2 formats for dvds that were introduced by different companies at around the same time, sort of competing.
Now most drives will read/write both.
Personally, I have found dvds burned with dvd-r have a tendency to be better read by older drives or dvd players.

there is not any + and - for CDs. in spite of the incontrovertible fact that, there is CD-regular, and CD-documents. CD-regular are levy paid discs that would artwork in CD Audio recorders or pc CD writers. CD-documents purely works in pc CD-author drives. CD-regular discs may well be offered as CD-Audio, becasue they are made for CD-Audio recorders. As for DVD, + and - are only minor formatting transformations. DVD + and - got here from 2 diverse producer communities which does no longer invent one writable DVD format, however the format each and every made had to be DVD nicely matched.

There is no such thing as CD+R. There are ONLY CD-R's.
There is a CD+G, but that's a logical format, not a physical format, and is only used for some karaoke type CD's.
