As happened last year in the frigid months of a midwest winter, my 03' Ford Explorer has started to make an ear piercing whistle coming from the hood. The whistle appears to be happening at transition points at or about every 10 mph (i.e noticeable at 30mph through 70 mph) - lasting until I accelrate to ~32, 42.... 72 mph, etc. This ONLY occurs on days when the ambient air temperature is below freezing. Wondering if it is an air intake issue, or something else.

I have a 2001 Hyundai Elantra and every now and then the check engine light comes on, for no apparent reason. This has happened several times and each time they find nothing wrong with the car. I will be driving just fine when the car will jerk and the light comes on. It still drives but it doesn't shift gears (it's an automatic). Once I turn the car off and turn it back on the light goes off. What could be the problem?

Sorry if you already answered this...I accidentallydeleted it.

I live in a city that has really cold winters and my year old car hadn't been plugged-in last night. Now it isn't starting even after I plugged it in for an hour. I checked my extension cord and power source - they are working. Even though the car doesn't start, the lights, radio, etc. do work...What could be wrong with my car? How can I get it to start? Please help!!!

If my car has a decent amount of gas, it will run fine. However, if the gas gets low to around a quarter of a tank, the car will die and have problems accelerating. If I put more gas in the car, then it drives fine again.

What could be causing this? I was thinking maybe there was something in the gas tank that somehow causes problems when the gas gets low.

The car is a Renult Laguna 2.0 RXE the gearbox appears to select a gear but does not drive the wheels. I can put the car into gear without using the clutch with the engine running and the gear box appears to have been leaking oil. There were no sighns of the gearbox dieing befor hand no clutch slip or any thing i was driving it and lost drive to the wheels. When its in gear the MPH needle reeds witch would indicate drive from the engine to the gearbox. any ideas

I have a 1998 ( s ) vauxhall astra 1.7 diesel ( low blow engine ) the brake pedal is hard but the car still stop`s with a little bit more pressure on the brake pedal ,
i have disconnected the pipe off the vacum pump and it is sucking in air so in theory i would think that it is ok ,
I have also disconnected the pipe comming from the servo and when i do this the pedal go`s hard so there is no movement and the car will not stop , when re-connected the pedal has a bit of give and the car stop`s as at the beginning of the question ,so in theory the servo is ok .
Is there a way of checking the abs pump ?
Where is it located ?
any other idea`s what it may be ?
Any help is gratefull .
Thanks in advance for any help !

policy pays 50% of parts and labor. says no major engine or transmission replacements. all other okay. gives benefits back after 2 years if you dont utilize claims. sounds legitimate. and i do range from 250- 500 on minor repairs per year. oh.. does not pay for maintenance and new tires

There has been a rash across the country of people getting thier catalytic converters stolen for the precious metals housed inside. There were over a half dozen in my town alone- this morning. A theft can happen in as little as five minutes with a team of two people. Is there any physical protection you can provide the underbelly of your car to prevent someone from hacking away at the components?

When I wash my car, what's the best way to get glass and mirrors super clean and streak-free -- for both inside and outside? Windex, when using a little, or a lot, seems to make it worse. I'd love to hear of anyone's suggestions, even homemade recipes, maybe with vinegar? Thanks!!
