I just recently purchased a Durango..when u start it its already on OD.. I dont know much about cars.. should I leave it on or off??

someone smoked in car. everytime turn on a/c smells like smoke.

Is it possible to do a compressions test on a motor that is completly out of a car?
I need to know if a motor is good before bought, is there any other way to check check if a motor is good short of a dyno? If the compressions test shows the motor compresses fine, what other could be wrong with the motor that would not be worth fixing or is unfixable?

have a 2001 Chevy Cavalier 2.4L and it has 103,000kms on it, I have done reg. maintanence on it since I bought it 1 1/2 years ago and have not had to fix a thing. Anyways..my problem is that it won't start. I had to boost it this morning to get to work and its a 1/2hour drive(all electronics were off on the drive here). I got to work and tried to start it about 1 1/2 hours later and its dead again, apparently the batteries not holding a charge. My b/f looked at it quickly this morning and said it could be the alternator or the battery. My check engine light has been going on and off for the past few months(is this the reason why?).....anyone have any ideas on what it might be, and if so how much it might cost for the parts - my b/f is very mechanical and could fix/install the parts himself. I'm just asking because he did not have time to look at it this morning and I just would like to have some sort of answer so I'm not worring all day long....Thx in advance to all who answer!

AS I said my check engine light has been going on then off and I don't have $100 to spend to be hooked up to a damn computer just to tell me why the sensor keeps going on then off. And no I have not been ignoring it.

I would also like to add that my alternator is making a high pitch squealing/squeaking noise and that I have a new stereo system hooked up to my battery for an amp & Subs but they are not hooked up.

i have a 1997 dodge intrepid 3.5 engine v6 and i have been having some problems first the check engine light came on had it checked at auto zone and it said o2 sensors so now i have had all 4 o2 sensors changed and i noticed that oil was leaking lightly when the mechanic was changing the sensors and he told me that it was the cam seals! but he changed the timing belt in march so i wanted to know if he was supposed to change the cam seals also? He also told me that i have a bad cradle mount! what is that?

There is a a sound whenever I change my gear 1 and 2 but other gear has not problem, anybody can give me advice as my mechanic don't know what's the problem and he says my car is OK.

it just boggles my mind that i've taken my car around the west coast and 5 different dealer repair shops have taken it ran all the tests after i told them what the problem was and none can figure it out,they just charge me for looking and whatever they said needed fixing now it's doing something that i think they did on purpose. the lights go on when it gets dark and off when it's light all by themselves and wont let me turn them off unless the car is off and the door is open.

is this a joke on me? how is this possible?

i took it in two days ago and told them that it has been "NOT" starting at times lately they said if it is not starting at times it's some kind of cylinder around the ignition that cost $160, so i told them to go ahead and fix it, and about 10 minutes after i left the dealership my lights flipped on and wouldn't go down then after 10 mins they did,but once i got into the parking lot they popped back on again, and when i get out of the car the lights only shut off when i shut the car and then turn the lights back on then off. and when i start the car in the parking lot the lights automatically pop on, and after 5 or 10 min. of driving they turn off all by themselves.

now it wont start again and this time it's been over an hour and it still wont start. i've taken it to 5 different chevy dealers from san jose, fresno, las vegas and santa monica, they all gave it back with a clean bill of health but never fixed it, now they told me i also need to change the catalytic converter

My 2003 Oldsmobile Alero's window doesn't roll down unless I push it down manually, but it does roll up with the button. I was told that the plastic brackets on both sides of the window are cracked and broken, which are located inside my door. Where do I get this fixed? The dealership or an auto glass place?

We have a '99 Yukon. There is dampness in the rear carpet just inside of the van doors. We are trying to learn if this is a problem common to some other Yukons or other suvs with van doors and if so, which gasket seems to be the problem. If someone has had this problem, can you give us any info. as to exactly where the water is coming in and how to have it repaired.

Last night my car just conked out. Its a v reg Vauxhall Astra TD,and was full of fuel and oil etc. When the ignition is turned the car sounds like its trying to start, but it won't.It was making an odd grumbling noise for a few days before, but other than that it was fine. Someone has told me it could be a fuel problem, that the diesel isn't getting to the engine. Has anyone had problems like this with their car, if so what was the problem and how much was it to get fixed?

i have an 04 civic coupe that i bought with 12000 miles in perfect condition. i have since put on 8k miles as of today and am not sure what i should replace or have looked at. the light is flashing maint requrd once and a while now that i have 8k added on. i know i have to change my oil because the light is on and my gas milage has been severely limited but i was wondering what else i should do to maintain my car and after how many miles i should change the oil and other things such as brake pads and all that. thanks!

when i put the car in drive or reverse the car stalls, someone tells me it is the torque, and another person tells me it is electrical problems. the car is a 1994 ford thunderbird, and has 110000 miles. when going speed limit drives fine and shifts fine. but when first starting off and it wants to stall the battery guage goes nuts.
