it just boggles my mind that i've taken my car around the west coast and 5 different dealer repair shops have taken it ran all the tests after i told them what the problem was and none can figure it out, they just charge me for looking and whatever they said needed fixing now it's doing something that i think they did on purpose. the lights go on when it gets dark and off when it's light all by themselves and wont let me turn them off unless the car is off and the door is open.

is this a joke on me? how is this possible?

It sounds like you have the automatic lights on your Vette. They are designed to do this. You should have a little bubble type thing on the dash that is a light sensor and controls the lights. This is a standard system on a lot of Chevys. My Sliverado has this. I wouldn't worry about it, just let it work like it was designed to. Read your manual. There is usually a way to kill the lights while sitting still with the car running. Sometimes as simple as settimg the parking brake before starting the car.

Its not a problem. It susposed to do what you described.
Also the radio doesn't shut off until you open the door.
You can unplug the daytime running lamp module thats
located behind the radio, or you can solder a jumper wire on the module to disengage the drl funcntion. Another trick is to remove the photo sensor in the defroster vent, and run a wire instead. You can find details on all these tricks at Steves SS #670 website. Try running a search for SS #670.

Sounds like a minor electical problem. Your car have a light sensor (meaning that it can tell when it is light and dark outside), this sensor is used to help turn the headlights on and off (if you use that setting).
Now I am assuming you are referring to a problem with your interior lights. Sounds like they might have mis-wired them.

Also, dealer repair shops seem to hose people whenever they can. I have diagnosed problems before, specifically told them what to do... and they still charge to diagnose it themselves.
