I have a 1991 Honda Accord LX and am having trouble with overheating and keeping coolant in the radiator. When the engine gets hot the coolant in the radiator is pushed into the overflow tank to the point of spilling out of the tanks cap along with the radiator cap. This occurs every time I drive it and I have to replace the coolant almost every day. The engine only overheats when the radiator dries up. I have been told I either need a new radiator or it is a head gasket problem. How do I know for sure?

I'm thinking about buying a 1997 Ford Mustang Convertible. I was wondering what the downside to owning a convertible is. I live in Ottawa, Ontario and we see some heavy snowfalls. Can this car still be practical for me? What other flaws are there?

I have a 1995 Buick Park Avenue with about 70,000 miles. Two weeks ago the A/C didn't seem to be cooling properly. The repair shop checked it out, and said it was fine. Today the A/C again didn't seem to be blowing cool air, and the car was making a smell that reminded me of burnt sugar. The coolant level was normal. Any thoughts before I take it in again?

I was just checking the automatic transmission fluid on a friend's car, with the engine running, when he said I should turn the engine off. I thought when you check the ATF, the engine should be running, and after a 30-minute drive, after having gone through all the gears. Or, must the engine be off?

I have a 1987 Caddilac Coupe Deville. The engine is a Goodwrench remanufatured 4100 it has about 16k on it. Regardless of what fuel or octane boosters i use. She still preignites under light acceleration. I've replaced the entire EGR system. I've set the base timing advanced and now back to factory 10btc. I've had a diagnostics computer hooks up and the only thing that was out of specs was the cell was dead. I understand that this is a 9 volt battery in a box under the dash. Is this true? Would it help to find it and replace it. It's like the space shuttle under the noise covers. Advice?

I have a 67 Ford with a 390 the old girl has sit for 10 years without being started. I changed the oil and fuel after a while she started. But, smokes bad, I mean blue LA smog stuff. When it was parked She didn't smoke at all. I think it's a collaped ring but, I'd like to try some engine cleaners and or solvents before I give up and rebuild the motor. Anyone have any suggestions?

For years I have had a "new or newer" car that I pampered, drove on longer or special trips, and basically "saved." I have driven an older car for work, short trips, instate travel. That older car died a few weeks back. I can repair the engine ($3K), get another old car ($3-6K), or just drive my '03 and save money for the spring and maybe do one or the other option above. I am just worried about putting miles on my "newer" car -- never done that. Am I alone? Should I just drive the car I am paying on and enjoy it ... not worry about it? On my old car, I was averaging 20k per year driving everywhere. My newer car has only 7K on it in three years. Thanks for helping me sort this out
