someone told me it was a cable. when it is really hot, it doesnt work until i drive for a while. sometimes it says i am going 100 mph, sometimes 0 mph

Probably NOT a cable problem. You didn't say what year, but anything after about 1992 or 1993 didn't use cables, they sued sensors and wires. If the speedometer and the fuel gauge both are inoperative at the same time, this is probably an indication that there is a bad connection under the dashboard or in the circuit OF the instrument cluster.

I don't believe the vehicle has a cable it problem has a vehicle speed sensor but i think you have more electrical problems because the speed should not effect the gas gauge

You have a cable problem in the dash. You will need a good mechanic look at it or just get a real car.
