I have a 1995 Buick Park Avenue with about 70,000 miles. Two weeks ago the A/C didn't seem to be cooling properly. The repair shop checked it out, and said it was fine. Today the A/C again didn't seem to be blowing cool air, and the car was making a smell that reminded me of burnt sugar. The coolant level was normal. Any thoughts before I take it in again?

burnt sugar, aka, antifreeze. the ac problem could be linked to the coolant issue but you didnt mention when it isnt blowing cold enough, when your at slow speeds, all the time ???

people who work on a/c have a tool called a sniffer. Looks kinda like a flash lite with a tube on it. they turn on your air and stick it in the vents to check for leaks. Plus your heater core could be leaking antifreeze do you see fog on the window by the defrost vents and check the passenger side of the car on the floor and up under the glove box to see if its wet if it is its your heater core

Maybe your heater valve is letting water into the heater core and the combined heat from that and the A/C are battling each other.

The A/C Fan could be locking up and or the radiator fan. Have it checked out. Mine was doing that also and that is what was wrong.
