ok this type of problem can have 2 interlinked parts.
If the vehicle is 5yrs with 60,000+ miles all of these are canditates.
Battery
Alternator/regulator (usually all in one)
Starter
A place like Advance auto parts can test the battery in the vehicle.
If the alternator is bad it could take the battery along with it i.e. you need to replace them both. Its rarer to have the starter damage the battery but that can happen.
I'd need more info on your car to tell you more.

sounds like the alternator. if it was the battery, it wouldnt accept a charge. if it was the starter, it wouldnt start. if it was shortages, it would probably be on fire. about $60 should fix it. try and find someone that can put it in for free, or you'll have to pay another $30 or so for installation. good luck.

if you can jump the car off it is one of two things unless it is a ford then three. 1 the alternator is not outting enough volts out to charge the battery 2 your battery has a dead cell and will not hold a charge .if ford the cylinaoid may be sticking and draining the power out of the batt . go to autozone and let them check both batt and alt for free

You have no alternative but to buy a new battery. Sorry, that's how you can solve your problem.
Getting stuck like this - say in the middle of winter - is no picnic. Think about it.
When the weather gets cold, this will be 10 times out of 10 that you will need a boost for the batteries. Whether you like it or not, winter is coming. That's for sure.

did you replace the starter and alternator? Have you had a mechanic check for shorts in the ignition system?
Have you cleaned the battery connections and made sure they're firmly seated?

You need to find out why you Battery is not holding a charge.
you could have just a bad battery, or a bad Altenator that is not recharging you battery, or you could actually have both
But it is not your Starter.
