for a replacement radiator in my Benz its a grand..WOW and the car is 28 years old.

Take it to a radiator shop and have it checked for leaks. They put it in this huge tanks and pressure test it. They can also fix any leaks you might have and paint it.

proper maintenance but rust is usually caused from air getting in the system and causing the internal metal parts to rust. also look around for a radiator shop, you should be able to get a radiator cheaper than that, then again i have no idea where you live

To prevent rust use antifreeze and distilled water.
Distilled water has no minerals which cause rust.

I have used Prestone Anti-Rust. It has worked for me in several cars.

always keep a mix of coolant and water in it, water will definitely rust., also keep in mind that its 28 years old, it may have lived its life
