The dashboard lights dimmed, the stereo turned off and on and then when I turned my car off and went to star it again it wouldnt turn on. I still have power to everything else in the car except the engine. It makes a "clicking" noise when I turn the ignition but it wont turn over. I got it jumped but that only lasted me the ride home.
Is it the alternator? Any rough estimates on how much this stuff costs?
PS. The battery is only a year old...so I dont think its that
thank you so much!

I have a VW Jetta. When I turn the key, the car will not start and I hear clicking. The hazard lights blink, the clock resets, and the car doors unlock. What are some possible problems?

Anyone with any experience with this car know if this is a good buy. I'm considering 1999 - 2002 model year GLX turbo. I've read mixed reiviews for this car. I've researched several other cars for a few months and this one heads the list so far. I definately want a small 2 door coupe that's reasonably fast (thus the GLX), that is not a major insurance policy liability, that has very distinctive styling, that gets good gas mileage, and is priced right. Already own a SUV and family sedan. This would be transportation to and from work and maybe a little weekend fun here and there. Does this vehicle fit the bill?

This can't be normal....I just got my oil changed a month ago and it is already low...and I am not at all near the mileage for time to go back in....same thing happened the last time I took it in. Also, I wonder if the kind of oil I am using could be a factor? I live in Germany on a very small military base...and where I take the car in...the ladies at the register have no idea what to recommend for the tyoe of oil...I have to go and pick it off the shelf myself...last time the lady was like, "Ummm....I thik that one looks good!" And the mechanics never say anything to me, so? I guess I am spoiled since I am used to pulling into a place like Jiffy Lube and having more that enough help and experts. (car is American spec)

i just purchased a 1999 VW jetta GLS and after reading many reviews about this car from msn and google, it sounds like this car isnt very reliable. Many people had common mechanical and technical problems like the window falling into the door, the engine light always turining on, the O2 sensors going out, and rain coming through driver door during rainy days and more. Does any one have any comments or answer as to if the 1999 jetta gls are reliable???? THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP
