They are flying off the new car lot like crazy, you can't get a discount off of MSRP and forget about good deal on financing.

First off, the car is one of the only VW's still made and imported directly from Germany (Wolfsburg to be specific), and not Mexico. Second, it is not a brand new different car from the Golf. This is the same car that they sell in Europe, but they call it the Golf. Presumably they re-badged it to give it a sense of retro that seems to be popular with cars right now (Mustang, Camaro, Charger, etc.) To answer the question, I'm sure it is a mix between it being a relatively new vehicle so they kind of trickle them out as opposed to flooding the market with them; this way they can make it more desirable and sell it for more. It could be this, and maybe the fact that they have to be shipped from the European Union that account for its rarity.

The VW has a cult following. People are more dedicated to these cars than they are to breathing. I am one of those people and can't wait to pay off this big a$$ Chevrolet and get something that makes sense to drive. I have a 1986 VW Golf and put over 275,000 miles on that car without a major breakdown. I don't know of any other car that will withstand the same hoses and belts well up into the 150,000 mile range.

With 24 million+ vehicles sold since 1974, do you really need any further clarification. Look at these links and you can see that Corolla is best selling, but it took Toyota 8 more years to outsell the VW Rabbit/Golf. Funny, I don't think I saw anything about Suburbans.....

Most cars are designed to last for 150,000 miles, but if you really do all the maintenance required, wash and wax regularly, you could conceivably double that. At the Detroit Auto Show once, I overhead a Toyota executive say that the Toyota Camry is designed with a 300,000 mile life expectancy. Maintain it right, don't drive it too hard and keep it clean. That's all you can do. Some cars are just better then others. Don't expect it to be perfect either. Cars are complex machines and sometimes things fail or break. Happy motoring! (I Iike the Rabbit a lot)

its not a re-badged golf. its the new rabbit, a totally different car. it is small, light, and good on gas. it was volkswagens best selling car next to the Bug. it was an icon, and with any hope it will be a new one as well. you dont need a good deal on one as it will pay for itself in the long run. "the rabbit makes you garage look bigger!"

I'll be thinking the same thing when I run one over with my 3/4 ton Suburban changing lanes in Chicago.

it's good, stylish, priced to sell and NEW. Finally something NEW on the market flooded by big, old-fashioned living rooms on wheels. Has a great gas mileage, too.

Good, the design
Bad: the price and unknown reliability.
