This can't be normal....I just got my oil changed a month ago and it is already low...and I am not at all near the mileage for time to go back in....same thing happened the last time I took it in. Also, I wonder if the kind of oil I am using could be a factor? I live in Germany on a very small military base...and where I take the car in...the ladies at the register have no idea what to recommend for the tyoe of oil...I have to go and pick it off the shelf myself...last time the lady was like, "Ummm....I thik that one looks good!" And the mechanics never say anything to me, so? I guess I am spoiled since I am used to pulling into a place like Jiffy Lube and having more that enough help and experts. (car is American spec)

i dont know but the people doing the job could be at fault. Look on the oil cap and find out what type of oil it suggest (ie:10W30 etc) The people doing the job could not be putting in the required amount of oil. Check as soon as they are done or when you get it home. Another part is that the mechanics may not know what they are doing. I am willing to bet your about a quart or a little less down. This is because the filter is empty when replaced adn after you start the car it fills up completely..If its not the mechanics then your VW has a more serious problem which could stem from various places. First off, do you find oil leaks on the ground anywhere? I highly doubt that your car is burning the oil but in the event it is you should be able to quickly identify it because the exhaust will have a color change to it, most commonly blue'ish or white.

I have a 2001 New Beetle 1.8t. I don't burn oil fast, but I change mine every 3000 miles. If you have the 1.8t they should be using synthetic oil in it. And because the oil lines are so thin you should definitely get it done every 3000 miles so that it doesn't clog the lines and create more problems. I would also check to see if the gaskets on the plug where they drain it are still good. Or they may not be tighting it enough. If thats not it, I would bring it into a shop.

Many late VW engines burn the oil, just use a bit thicker oil and change it more often. You also can find in the auto store the additives that can be added to the engine oil and reduce oil consumption.
