I own a Volkswagen chico and I have trouble explaining to the service mechanics what needs to be done. You always have to be specific with them and seeing as I am a girl, I have absolutely no idea what needs to be done on a service. So please, can anyone tell me what needs to be checked, repaired, changed, etc when it comes to a major service?

Wow, your question is really broad. There are so many things that could happen it is impossible to list them all here.

Check you owner's manual for frequent maintenance issues. There should be a list of what and how many miles things should be done.

I would find a good mechanic that you trust. I stay away from the "Stealership". Ask friends, coworkers, and even strangers who are getting into the same car you have. Look on the VW boards on the web. Here in the US, I use www.thesamba.com and www.vwvortex.com

Don't be afraid to ask anyone you know what could be wrong with your car when something isn't right. It's better to have an idea than to go in blindly and be charged for repairs you didn't need.

And buy a Bentely manual for your car if you can do repairs yourself.

Good luck!
