i have a 99 vw jetta gls that had a small antifreeze leak. i used normal off the counter antifreeze, and then i found out your supposed to use manufacter antifreeze. what is the diference, and what would it cause. i figure it has diferent temperature ranges, but reassurance would be nice.

So I purchased a 99 New Beetle a little while ago and it was running great until the check engine light came on, which ever since, the car engine sounds and feels like it is skipping and it takes longer than usual to shift gears (it is an automatic).
I brought it back to the dealer immediately and they supposedly brought the car to an authorized Volkswagen dealership because the dealer I purchased the car from is just your average, used car dealership and does not have experienced Volkswagen service people. The mechanic at my dealership told me the problem had something to do with the vacuuming something or other (I can't remember exactly, sorry!) and said the light wasn't on anymore and the skipping was gone.
The next day, you guessed it, the same stuff happened except the engine light never came on. I planned to bring it back to the dealer again after the holidays because I figured it could wait because the engine light never did come on again.....theres more!!! keep reading...

I own a 1964 Bug that is has been completly redone and has a rebuilt 1600cc motor in it. It has an oil leak coming from the flywheel that I'm guessing would be from the seals since it is the most common of an issue. However...I was driving it home from a couple of hours away. After 2 hours of driving I stopped to rest and put a lil oil in it to be sure it would make the rest of the 45 min drive home. I put approx. 1/4 of a quart. I jumped back on the freeway and was going about 70 mph like always. About 5-10 minutes later...POOF!!! There was smoke everywhere behind me and in the cab. I pulled over and shut it off. I'm not talking about a lil smoke. ALOT of smoke. Like I blew the engine! Luckily I have a tow bar for the thing and towed it the rest of the way with my truck. Now...when I got home...I checked the oil and it's a lil over. I started it up and it sounded fine. Oil pressure is the same as if I started it cold. What on earth could I have done?

I have had a few bugs and one bus. I really like them.....the only problem I have had is keeping them cool.

What kind of aftermarket stuff is good for extra cooling. I am wondering if there are any good aftermarket fans mainly, and maybe extra oil cooler? Thanks.

Today, my heat randomly quit working in my 2001 VW Beetle. The knob woudln't turn off, it got stuck at "2". When I turned it to 4, the heat turned completely off-- insead of blowing out stronger heat. After about 30 min. when I got back into my car, finally the knob turned back down to OFF. Now when I turn the knob to 1,2,3, or 4 NOTHING happens.
also the button underneath my heat control I think that circulates the air (it has an arrow on it?) won't push in.
What could have happened to my bug??
Will this be expensive to fix??
