I just bought a brand new 2007 VW Rabbit. If I maintain it by the book to the T how many miles can I expect out of it with relatively few problems?

for the most part vw makes very reliable engines. parts on them may not be great (coil packs) but they're pretty good overall. my 85 cabriolet has about 160000 and its still going strong. a modern engine thats mostly taken care of will run for pretty much ever excluding random failures that do occur. the 2.5 in the new rabbits and jettas hasn't been around long enough for actual reliability numbers, but its not likely gonna give out with less than 100000 miles.

Most cars are designed to last for 150,000 miles, but if you really do all the maintenance required, wash and wax regularly, you could conceivably double that. At the Detroit Auto Show once, I overhead a Toyota executive say that the Toyota Camry is designed with a 300,000 mile life expectancy.

Maintain it right, don't drive it too hard and keep it clean. That's all you can do. Some cars are just better then others. Don't expect it to be perfect either. Cars are complex machines and sometimes things fail or break. Happy motoring! (I Iike the Rabbit a lot)

In my experience the newer VW's go about 70,000 before they start having any real problems.

I have 209,000 on my 97 Jetta. She's running strong and still gets 34 mpg highway. I have seen milage as high as 495,000. Just fix problems asap in regards to drivetrain and suspension.

This question cannot even be answered... if you do maintenance on modern vehicles we'd expect them to last at least 100k. I've had several cars that I bought with nearly 200k on the original engine. But it depends on the owner's driving habits, vehicle make etc. Too many variables.

Probably about 25 or 30 miles, then it will fall apart after its hit by a semi because you were not looking.
