Today, my heat randomly quit working in my 2001 VW Beetle. The knob woudln't turn off, it got stuck at "2". When I turned it to 4, the heat turned completely off-- insead of blowing out stronger heat. After about 30 min. when I got back into my car, finally the knob turned back down to OFF. Now when I turn the knob to 1,2,3, or 4 NOTHING happens.
also the button underneath my heat control I think that circulates the air (it has an arrow on it?) won't push in.
What could have happened to my bug??
Will this be expensive to fix??

Sounds like the inside of the switch broke. Call the dealer and see how much to replace it.

I had the same problem with my 2000 jetta...up until 2002 VW switched the manufacturing process. if you have the heat on a lot you could have damaged the circuits and busted it. what i did is I took it back to my dealer and asked them to find out the problem. sure enough it was broken. so i thought , what do i do will this be a $3000 cost or $300. i asked a friend of mine who was a mechanic and he said from a usual mechanic you would get it fixed for $300 - $500 i hope this helps you. good luck.

you need to go to the dealer and get new heater controls installed. it should cost between 300-450 to fix.
