Back in July, the exhaust went on my 98 1.6 Xsara and I had a new catalytic converter fitted. I drove for about 10 minutes with no exhaust to get to the garage. A couple of days later the engine light came on and the car started to misfire occasionally. I took it to a Citroen dealer who said the ECU was coming up with a problem with an injector so I paid £200 for a new injector harness. It made no difference and the mechanic said they couldn't get the light to turn off, therefore I 'needed a whole new ECU.'
Not wanting to pay £600 I've been putting up with it for a few months now. Sometimes the car runs perfectly, other times it frequently loses engine power for a split second. This happens whether I'm accelerating or travelling at a constant speed.
It idles ok, apart from an occasional 'cough' when the engine momentarily loses 50 or RPM and then recovers.
Any ideas? I suspect the lambda sensor since the exhaust went just before the problem.
