I suppose they'd be good if you just like their looks and don't plan on doing much off- roading with them. It's a really light-duty unibody design and all the drivetrain components are light-duty as well. Jeep does their best in their marketing to make it look like a Liberty is as capable as a Wrangler. Believe me, it is not! The Liberty is aimed squarely at urban dwellers who's off- road forays max out on state park roads and ski resort parking lots. If you are interested in one for good street traction in poor weather conditions, you'll probably be very happy.

I drive trails off-road of all difficulties, and have never seen a Liberty on any of them.

I at present own an 02 Libby. i love Jeeps so there is a few bias in my answer. the recent body style, quite the front end, aren't to any extent further as superb because the originals. The gas milage is from 15 to twenty mpg with a ok and N air clear out assisting some. street noise might want to be more desirable than you're waiting to settle for. time-honored its an really solid unit. seem on the diesel kind for further efficient milage. My best pride is that i change into hit with the aid of yet another driving force and that i think the Jeep kept my existence. its an really probability-free motorized vehicle. I had it rebuilt as new, we've very nearly one hundred,000 miles. reliable luck!!!

It was not a good SUV for us...

Lets break it down... S-U-V

S = Sport. There is nothing sporty about this vehicle. It does have decent "off the line" acceleration, but thats where it ends. It has very limited freeway passing power. The suspension is horrible. Tight/harsh suspension is a customary trade off for off road capabilities.. In this case you lose both ways.... It has horrible suspension and no/limited off-road abilities.

U = Utility. This is a considered a Mine-Ute (mini-untilily) which can be compared with the Rav-4, etc. The cargo bay lives up to this "mini" philosophy. With the rear seats down, it makes a decent size cargo area. The rear seats are good for smallish people as well. Seating for 3 in the rear is uncomfortable no matter how small the passengers. The most utilitarian device on the car are the grocery bag hooks in the rear cargo area!!!

V = Vehicle. Check. It's a vehicle!

In Summary, the Liberty scores on 1 of the 3 S-U-V requirements. Thats a score of 33% (failing grade). We had our Liberty for a little over a year. My wife has always been a Jeep lover and when she saw this cute little SUV, she had to have one. It was a good car for the driver and passenger (so long as there is no baby seat in back). If you're looking for a practicle family car (seats at least 4 comfortably) look elsewhere. For its small size, it is incredible heavy and gets rather crappy gas mileage (<15mpg on avg).

Despite writing this negative review, there will be plenty of people who rationalize all the bad qualities and buy Liberty because..........its cute!
