All of those tricks are cute but unnessesary. The PCM on your car does not control the ABS light. The EBCM/EBTCM ( Electronic Brake Control Module/Electronic Brake Traction Control Module) Controls the ABS Light. Loss of power to the EBCM/EBTCM drops the KAM ( Keep Alive Memory ) to the EBCM/EBTCM.( No KAM = no codes) So disconect your Battery for 10 seconds.
BUT
The light is going to come right back on untill the fault is corrected. Every time you start your car the EBCM/EBTCM does a selftest. If it detects a problem the light comes on and will stay on untill the problem is no longer detected.
The EBCM does a solenoid test once you start moving. exceeding 10 mph for more than 3 seconds starts the test every ignition cycle.(every time you start the car)
If you start your car and the ABS light comes on you can rule out Wheel speed sensors(HUB assembly)and Jumper harness to the wheel speed sensors. EBCM/EBTCM can only detect a fault with those while moving.Wheel speed sensors are AC voltage generators. They generate a small AC voltage as they rotate (like your altenator generates voltage while turning).Voltage is what the EBCM/EBTCM is looking for.
Start the car with your foot OFF the brake pedal....is the light on? NO. Press the brake pedal if the light comes on you will need a brake light switch.( EBCM/EBTCM get two signals from the brake switch one is direct the other is from the BCM(body control module)). If it get one signal and not the other the ABS light illuminates.
If the ABS light come on when you start the car without your foot on the brake, you have a problem with the EBCM/EBTCM. Having said this there is a ground wire problem on that year car for the EBCM/EBTCM. G102, G103, and G105 (G=Grounds)
description of ground locations
G102 (LA1)6 cyl engine
On the front of the engine, in front of starter
--
G102 (L61)4 cyl engine
On the lower front of the engine
--
G103 (L61)4 cyl engine
On the lower front of the engine
--
G103 (LA1)6 cyl engine
On the left side of the engine, on transmission stud
--
G104
On the left front side of the engine compartment

G105
On the left front side of the engine compartment
Email me with a code if you go get it scanned and i will send you diagnostic flow chart for the code and diagrams of the ground locations.

I had the same problem. Found a broken wire to the back of the wheel. I read tho and then did this and it worked! Turn the key to accessory but dont turn the car on. Then quickly hit the gas pedal 3x and poof! All the Christmas tree lighted up panel went off and have stayed off. Its been a month since i did this and still everything's off. Ever tried the "reset" button in the panel on the drivers side and wondered why it did nothing? For some magical reason hitting the gas pedal like that cleared the memory and now the reset button works as well. Just my 2 cents from someone who this has worked for. But do check behind your wheel. Youll see a wire harness going into the back of the hub. Its 2 wires, or it is on mine anyway. One wire is broken on mine but it was pretty hard to see so take a close look. Its a stupid place to put something that controls your ABS and Traction control! Drive thru deep grass and it could break it. What was Pontiac thinking??? Good luck!

You need someone with a scanner to access the codes and find out why the light is on. Then they can clear the codes and the light will go off. BUT, if you do not fix the problem that set the light off in the first place, it will just come back on again. 99% of the tome it is a wheel speed sensor. Your car has them built into the wheel bearing assembly, so they are costly. Good luck! GaryT

reset the PCM. all that happens is the sensor see's something it doesnt like, and the PCM turns your ABS off. it happens to my 01 Grand Am once in a while as well, usually when its cold or wet out. its a simple fix, but your probably going to think its dumb. never the less it works.
when your driving at the light comes on, wait till there is no one around you. then put your car in nuetral, and rev the engine once. when the engine is reved up, turn the key to off, then hurry and turn it back to on. if you do that fast enough the engine will stay running. if not, and the engine dies, just restart it as usal. once your engine is back on put it in drive and when all your dummy lights go off, so will your ABS light. all that trick does is reset the system. its simple.
good luck

A. go get your brakes checked. B. Before you turn your car on, press and hold the odomiter thing-a-ma-jig and then turn your car on. Continue to hold the button for 15 seconds. THEN hit the breaks 3 times, pull the emergency right after the 3rd time you hit the breaks. Release the emergency break and then turn the car on, rev the engine and then turn the car off. Let it rest for 5 minutes and then turn the car on again. That should do it.

If you dont have a scanner, the easiest thing to do is to just disconect the negative battery cable from the batter for 30 seconds. this should reset the pcm/ecm
