I owe about $6,500 on my car. It is worth about $2,500 from the dealership and maybe more if I sell it to an individual - which I don't want to do b/c that seems like a pain and I live in a ski town, etc. Anyway, I have $8,000 saved up and can pay off my car and use the $1,500 on a down payment OR would it be more advantageous to pay it off and go to the dealer with a zero balance and $1,500 down, or does the dealership like to see a customer with $8,000 cash down on a new vehicle?

Considering buying one: what are your informed impressions:
* value compared to Honda or Toyota
* frequency of need for repairs?
* feeling of quality or lack thereof?
* treatment by sales and service people
* for backyard mechanics: easy to work on? or not?

I have owned two used cars previously. My first car was a 1985 Chevrolet Cavalier Z24 convertible, gorgeous, baby blue. It had a lot of problems, and cost me a lot on repaires but that's because it was 18 years old! It lasted until 2004, at 19 years old! A year later, and it would have been considered an antique (I think?). This was my baby, but I had to junk it because nobody would buy an '85 that was not working (the transmission finally died).

My current car is a '94 Nissan Sentra. I've only had minor problems with it so far that are maintenance, not engine problems (dashboard lightbulb died, battery was bad, exhaust leak due to a rusty part that needed to be replaced...). It's not a bad car, it's just getting old (has 145,000 miles on it), and I want to get something a little more reliable.

More details below on lifestyle and such.

Whatever model is included in the program. You pay only the taxes, registration, conveyance and GAP Insurance(the total comes to approxinmately $2000.00. You receive a check for whatever the lease payments will total for one full year. You use taht money to pay the monthly payments(no additional money out of pocket). You are allowed up to 12,000 miles for the year(no more than that). You can turn the car in as long as there is no damage and you can get a brand new car again for the same deal. You have to have perfect dredit.
My question is: How the heck is this possible? How does the dealer make enough money to cover this?

Hello knowledgeable guys!
I signed the contract to purchase a used car from used car dealership in Connecticut and paid a dawn payment 300$. My intentions were to send this car to my dad to other county, but I figured out the costumes fee a so ridiculously high, so it’s cheaper to buy car there. So I asked a dealer to cancel the deal. They refused to return my 300$ back. They didn’t offer me to sign a cancellation papers. In the contract it’s no even a word that is not refundable, and to be honest I wasn’t aware that they keep it. So the owner told me when this car will be sold I can have my money back. They sold it, but don’t want return my down payment (no return calls to resolve it). Unfortunately this agreement of returning my money was only verbal . And now the question: Can I return my money back? Thank you very much!
