The Passat was a good car with average reliability and 2000 would be a good year by Volkswagen's standards. VW traditionally aren't among the most reliable of brands or cheapest to repair either. So, carefully review the repair history of the car you are buying, if its had alot of non-maintance repairs then you should stay away. If the car has been trouble free then it should continue that way for the most part. The biggest repair would be transmission so have a shop inspect the car before you agree to buy it. The car itself is very nice if you are getting a fully loaded V6 model.

I had a 2002 GTI with a similar engine and trans. that's a 5-velocity Tiptronic that had undesirable internals, like a undesirable opposite piston and shaft. Mine failed at purely 60K miles. I planned to rpelace it, yet 3 years in the past the broking needed $5000 to interchange it. jointly as the engine itself usually holds up, this engine has a number of small diameter plastic tubing particularly of hoses for the emissions gadget. They get brittle and crack, and that they are high priced. additionally, any orange plastic merchandise below the hood, like the dipstick tube and dipstick, additionally crack. that's a by no skill-ending job to maintain up, and the vehicle won't idle or run wisely with a broken tube. additionally, look on the Y-formed hose on the driving force's area of the engine, in front, close to the perfect. this is desirable below the engine conceal. It incorporates oil blowby. situation is, it is not oil resistant, and it actually dissolves. i could look for an authorized Hyundai accessory at a Hyundai broking.
