I want to buy an economic car that I can use to drive to and from school. Right now I'm looking at the Saturn ION 2 2007 ($15275.00) and Hyundai Elantra GLS 2007 ($14895)... my question is, if I have the cash to purchase it on the spot, would I be able to talk the salesman into selling the car at a lower price? I've heard of the blue book, but I'm not sure what the blue book value of the cars are... or if it even applies...

I have a 2005 hyundai elantra and my fiancee has a 2007 mazda3. We need to sell one, but which? the hyundai has an excellent warranty and only costs $350/month INCLUDING insurance. her mazda is $600 including insurance. The mazda is newer (and frankly nicer) than my hyundai, but my hyundai is much more reliable and safer. . . help

OK, I asked another question yesterday about "unknowingly being sold a car with a salvage title" -- http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20061128073937AAwWAu9 -- which the dealership is supposedly still uncertain of.

Well, the saga continues. Now they claim they should get the title today, they're just waiting for the auction people to send it. I've been told that the auction part is normal, though them not knowing any details about their purchase seems odd, to say the least.

They're claiming they're in the same position I'm in! Isn't it their responsibility to know? Plus when I asked they insisted it hadn't been in a wreck, and they went further to give me a warranty.

Assuming the car has only been in a wreck (that resulted in a settlement for $13k in 12/2005) how does that effect the so-called "bumper-to-bumper" warranty they gave me? Is this alone fraud, even if it doesn't have a salvage title?

Shouldn't they reduce the price? Am I stuck?

(I'm in TX.)

I just moved to Austin, TX from Alaska. I had a 1997 Subaru Outback that I loved but I sold it before moving.
Now I'm looking for a new car here. I've narrowed it down to these choices:
1997 Toyota 4Runner with 100K miles
1997 Subaru Legacy (sedan) with 61K miles
1999 Subaru Outback (wagon) or Forester 90K miles
1999 Volkswagen Passat 87K miles

I'm looking for something reliable that will last me another 100K miles.
I prefer something with the space of an SUV or wagon but can do without.
I know the Subaru's last long but the gas mileage isn't that great for just a car...might as well get an SUV.
I like the 4Runner but I can only afford the 1997 with 100K miles (cause they never lose their value for goodness sake) and the mileage kinda scares me. The Passat is very sharp, great looking interior, fun to drive, etc. but I'm a little worried about the reliability.

Which would be the best considering the circumstances?

I have an 92' corsica and I make less than 2,000 grand a month. I would like to have a newer car, between a 96 & 2000. Where is a good used car lot to go too. My credit is not the greatest, but I would like it if I didn't have to worry about being ripped off.

For those of you that HAVE a convertible car, I would like to know if you have ever had anything happen to you such as theft, holes on the roof, or have to replace the roof every so often, etc. It would be great if you could tell me wether you think convertible is worth having, and if so, tell what car and year it is, or anything else you would like to share about convertibles. Thanks.

The prices between the two cars are not a big difference. I know convertibles are fun and everything, but is it worth it(maintenence, security, etc., not money)? Thanks.

My boyfriend sold his car on ebay. He asked for a £150 deposit at the end of the auction from the winner. The guy couldn't pay for whatever reason, and then when he could he said he'd be around at the weekend anyway to pick the car up so could he just pay in full then. We said sure. He turned up at the weekend and then started checking the car out like he was buying it normally. He left without taking it saying he needed to have a think, we were stupidly too nice and said ok. He has since delayed even more and now it looks like he won't buy it. Surely he entered into a contract..is the worse we can do really just to leave bad feedback?! The car is a bargain as it's a soft top being sold in the winter. We just picked up our new car today and now have noinsurance for the other, or parking space. Any advice?!
