Buying & Selling - November 2006

We have just moved to Spain and we live in the mountains. We intend to do a LOT of driving so we need a very very economical car which can cope with steep inclines. As it will be a business car and we will often have guests we would like a 4 door executive style car like a BMW or the like but perhaps smaller as I am used to smaller cars (Laguna etc). We have just bought a PT Cruiser which is lovely but it cannot cope with the mountain drive and it drinks so much petrol it is bankrupting us. Can anyone recommend anything from personal experience? Thanks!

Assuming these are Very Well-maintained cars. Carfax shows ZERO problems, looks good

Of course, I am going to get these checked out by a mechanic before buying, also assuming I can probably knock down $1000 or $500 or these cars (OR MORE) by negotitating... What's the BEST deal?

Teenage boy with limited funds ($5,000 - $6500). Living in New England I would think a 4x4 would be better in the winter. I would also think a quad cab would provide more protection in case of an accident, but I could be wrong. What are thegood and the bad about owning a small to mid size pick up?

I have always had rather boring small cars e.g. pegueots and VW's, and am looking for somthing a bit different now. I would reaqlly like a Defender but am worried about running costs and increased tax due to enviromental issues. So I what I would really like is an older bigger car which would be cheap and really rialable somthing like an old rover 400 or a mercedes 190E, can anyone help me, suggestions on a rialable cheap four door salon cars from around the 1990's but somthing a bit different would be very helpfully thanks

I am interested in buying a certified used car--like at Carmax. Well, I was looking at how high insurance would be because we would have to make payments versus the pennies we pay now because our car is paid for. I am considering taking out a personal loan and paying cash for the car flat out. I think that this will eliminate high insurance and I can pay the loan off as if I did have a note anyways. The bonus is also that the loan has a lower interest rate and I won't have to worry about the car getting repossessed. The car I want costs less than $9,000 and is a certified used car (it's been checked out, etc). What do you think?
