The dealer delivered the car without credit approval. It happens more often than you think. If they can't get an approval they won't send in the motor vehicle paperwork. They should try to contact you to work this out, like more money down or other methods, but if they can't reach you, they can report the car stolen.

They cant report it as stolen, but they can repossess it.
There is something amiss thought. Normally the company would not have given you the car without a signed contract and completed loan documents, including your signature. Best to just take the car back, and tell everyone you know not to do business with them.
Do not pay them any portion for the period you had the car however. They have no case to ask you pay, if the loan was not approved.

Ok. So if I understand correctly the dealership sold you a car with out checking your credit and now they want it back? Geesh... the moral thing to do would be to take the car back and be done with it. Also get it in writing that (Because they screwed up) it will not affect your credit in anyway. Other wise if you have all the paper work that you had to sign when you bought the car. Talk with a lawyer and see what they can tell you about it.

I've heard of people walking out of a dealership with a free car before due to incorrect paperwork, I would pay a lawyer to look into it. The cost up front will be more than worth a free car. That or find a friend of a friend who works in finance. I think you would have to have the title signed to you first, though. I would definitely look into it.

If they gave you the car keys it isn't "Stolen" HOWEVER, they are perfectly within their rights to have it repossessed by a Repo company. It is just an unpaid vehicle.

By a tag, do you mean the title? I thought you couldn't get a title until the car was paid in full. (no financing, etc.)
