Ok, so I had the starter replaced in my 84 Chevy Suburban last Nov. I drove it to KS and my mechanic there (who used to do all the work on that truck that I couldn't do) said the starter was pulling over 350 Amps. He said the starter ws bad and I needed to have the shop replace it. When I got back to VA, the day I went to take it back to the shop, it broke the bolt that sits closest to the engine. The shop never tested the starter, just put a new one on and said it was starting hard because of a cracked fuel line. They then charged me $250 for replacing the bolt and the fuel line. The next day, when i tried to start it, the (+) connector at the battery burnt in half and the starter started grinding. i called the shop and they came out, they tried to start it, looked at it for a couple seconds and said the flywheel was broken at the centerplate and it was $750 to replace it.

Details to follow, its a long story, but I really need help.

My mom has a '98 Ford Escort with 19,000 miles on it. She is not having any problems with it. She called an auto repair shop to set up an appt for a tune-up. Over the phone (without seeing the car), they said she would need a $500 timing belt. How could they know that she might need a new timing belt?

Weather is main factor for this accident (blizzard, snow, slush).

Car 1 and car 2 are both waiting to turn left at a red light in a left hand turn lane (with arrow traffic signal). Car 1 is the third car waiting to turn, and car 2 is the fourth. The arrow turns green, and the first two cars in the line proceed slowly (around 5-8mph). Car 1 takes the turn at the same speed, but before turn was completed, it begins to slowly fishtail before bumping against the median on the intersecting road and coming to a complete stop. Car 2 attempts to avoid car one but strikes it in the left rear. Car 1 has no rear damage, but car 2 has minor front fender damage. Officer reporting to scene cites no one, but says both drivers are at fault (Car 1 lost control, car 2 struck car 1). On police report, officer only writes down car 1 as being at fault for driving too fast for conditions.

I didn't check the fuel average when I brought a pre-used Honda Accord EX - Manual Transmission (1996 model) around a month ago with 94000 miles on it. 15 days ago I got the timing belt replaced. Today I checked the fuel average & found that I am getiing only 18 miles/gallon in city condition. What could be the possible reasons for getting such a low fuel average?

I have a 1999 Pontiac Grand Am SE V6...and this car is a POS. I really want to get rid of it and get me a newer vehicle. I just don't want to go to a dealership and get laughed off the lot because nothing on the thing works! Examples..A/C doesn't cool( something we are going to fix, this is TX ya gotta have a/c), steering is off because I got in an accident just after x-mas, the front driverside fender is bent in and the door is smashed up, but does open and close just doesn't close flush with the frame of the car. Only the passenger side front window opens, all the rest are either off the track or the motor went out. The seats are messed up because of the kids. oh yeah and one of the front headlights is a little messed up because of that accident as well. Everything else is good. I don't expect much for trade in if it is accepted but I don't want to be embarassed by a salesman. Or should I just sell it on my own? Any advice?

I'm thinking about buying a Porsche 944. It's a 1987, no turbo 2.5L engine, seems like it has a few defects, but the only thing that seems major is the power steering system is shot. I already have quotes on what it will cost to get it into working shape, but I'm looking for an answer from a Porsche enthusiast. I am wondering if this car is going to be cool looking, but is that all I'm going to be able to do with it, because it will be in the shop all of the time? How easy is it to get parts for this car? How easy is it to work on, how expensive is it to have worked on. Any info is helpful. I already looked at Kelly Blue Book, and NADA values for the car, but what is a good deal for the car in your opinion? Thanks.

The air compressor (80 gallon, 2 phase, upright) is in it's own small room. It does get warm in that room. I have a large inline drier that is 25 feet away from my air compressor but not in that same room and the water fills my air drier really fast. I drain my air compressor every night. What can I do differently? I do auto body work. Thanks.

PS: Asking for my husband. :-)

We now get "carbom emissions", we also pay more than any other country to use a car, plus if you do drive a car you are a criminal, as proven that this country has most the male population with an offence to there name.
Now we here "road pricing" is the only way to help releive congestion "BULL" use the many millions us drivers pay in a sort out the raods?
Them bring in a (none payment or profit making) 10 to 12 year re test, I do not like it but it will sort out the problems.
Then as with other countries, platable documentation, thats tax, insurance (thats a scam to) and the drivers right to use all displayed on the number plates.

I am looking at buying a 1967 VW beetle. In pretty good shape, has been in garage entire time. Paint job is orginial as are all the parts. Paint looks good, some rust on bumpers, seats are in good shape, floor is worn. Nothing is so bad cannot be replaced or repaired. Overall pretty good but they want 5,200. Might get them down to 5,000. have seen restored ones for sell but would have to pay to get it sent to Tenn. I think it might be a good deal but would like to get some opinions from others
thanks

My 94 BMW 325i has a slight miss somewhere around 2500 RPMS. If you give gas, or let off the gas, this miss goes away. But if its held steady at 2500 RPMS, the miss stays. Any clue what this could be? There are no lights that come on, and its not the transmition... The car is near flawless with only 100K on it.

There are so many confusing options with motor oil how do you choose? I live near Phoenix, AZ and I have an 1993 Toyota Tercel with 130k miles on it. I have been using 5W30 oil because that's what someone who supposedly knows something about cars suggested I use. First of all, why 5W30? Do I want a synthetic oil? And what about the brands; they are all different prices but what is the difference between them? Is it worth it to buy a more expensive brand?
