There is no comparison. The Corolla will still be humming long after the Hyundai has been consigned to the junk yard. Toyotas are by far the most reliable car in the world --- the streets are full of Toyotas with 250,000 miles or more. Hyundai's start giving problems the same day you drive it home. It has zilch resale value because it is such a horrible piece of crap. Some people think Hyundai's are Japanese -- they are not. They are Korean.

What is the purpose of the car? Is it just because you want something to last the next few years and then you are getting a new one? Then the Hyundai might be a good choice. I agree with other writer that I don't trust them yet long term. Toyotas and Hondas have long records of being really good cars. They have very few problems over the long haul.

The Corolla is kind of an old and boring design. I personally don't trust the Hyundai quality so I'd buy a Honda instead. Ford has a new Focus out for 2008 later this year.
For $10k, buy a used Civic.

Corolla ALL the way. I actually am a japanese car fan though. I have owned Hondas, Nissans, and Toyotas. I wouldn't ever spend money on a Hyundai, but that is me. I don't trust them. I hear they are better and there was a time when other above mentioned companies had a bad rep. For now I would steer clear. Are you financing or purchasing outright? I would choose the Corolla I have seen those prices inflated. I bought my new one for less than any used one I could find!!!! Good luck in your quest.

Once again Nascar spills out rubbish and lies. The Toyota Corolla is the best selling car on earth for a good reason, it tops quality catagories year after year. They are built here in Ontario Canada are top all for quality.
http://www.jdpower.com/corporate/news/releases/pdf/2006133.pdf
Lexus, Toyota and Honda models dominate the segment rankings. Lexus models lead in four segments: GS
300/GS 430 (midsize premium car), LS 430 (large premium car), SC 430 (premium sporty car) and GX 470
(midsize premium MAV). Four Toyota models also lead in their respective segments: Echo (sub-compact car),
RAV4 (compact MAV), Highlander (midsize MAV) and Tundra (large pickup).
If you buy a Corolla you will be awarded with top gas savings iin it's field (in fact it is awarded a $1000 Canadian Government Tax refund for being so fuel efficient), top resale value and quality.
Hyundai quality is very very good too, but we don't know much about long-term realiability and resale value.
Best Bet - Go Toyota Corolla or YARIS.
I have a 2001 Toyota Echo/Yaris and have had it for over 70,000 km with NO problems at all! I average 46mpg.
I will sell my 2001 Echo this summer and trade in on a new 2007 Yaris. My Echo will fetch me a whopping $6,400 on trade-in, excellent resale value for a car that is 6 years old.

I kow it may sound odd but I would say the Hyundai Accent. The Corolla is on Forbes List of least-safe vehicles, and was recently placed in 5/6 in Car and Drivers small sedan comparison. The Accent was fourth. There are also lots of problems with new Toyotas Read all of this http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AjBWXBH9.rW4w8Xffa0c8UgAAAAA?qid=20070301210328AAn8E5d
If you want something new look at a compact. Here is Smart Moneys test of small cars http://www.smartmoney.com/autos/newcars/index.cfm?story=december2006 The Yaris lost with 2 stars, Nissan Versa third with 2.5 stars, Chevy Aveo sedan second with 3 stars, and the Honda Fit won with 3.5 stars. They dont post the scores online, you have to get the magazine. The interior of the new Aveo sedan is actually pretty nice http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070218/COL14/702180672/1015/BUSINESS01 The Aveo is a worldwide player for GM, and in many places is a mid-range car. The Fit is a little nicer, but it costs a lot more and is more expensive to fix. My dad has a 15 year old Saturn and it still runs great, even within the last year GM has made strides in quality and reliability, and its paying off.

Go out and try them out. I think you will like the Corolla better. If it is possible test the Hyundai first and bring it to the Toyota dealer for a side by side comparison.

Buy the Corolla. I know from experience Toyota's last forever. I had an 87 camry that lasted to 264,000 miles. And I had a 96 Celica that I traded in about 5 days ago that had 200,000, and still ran perfectly.

Toyota Corolla is the number one selling car on the earth and has all the things you look for: quality, comfort, safety, practicality, fuel efficiency, and reliability. It has high resale value and is great all around. If money is the issue, try the Yaris or Scion XA!

Corolla's are by far better than the Hyundai. if your trying to buy new the corolla is a good choice, but look into a slightly used camry, or honda it'll be a better choice.
also check out other cars like the Mitsubishi Galant it drives good.
from personal experience... don't settle give yourself options...look around
good luck with your purchase
