If you have garnishments placed on your check which are taken out twice monthly, does that mean when income tax time runs around that they will also take your refund?

Hey I have a general question on taxes, hopefully one of you is an expert out there! WE will be going to HR block or somebody this year...Anyway, my fiance & I bought a house together this year in April, it is in both of our names, but I think he is the "primary" or something. I also have a dependent(6 yr old daughter) Can we both file head of household? he makes a little more $ than I, but I have the dependent. I am so confused on how this will work. Like I said, we will be going to a professional, but I was just curious if anyone has been in the same situation.
Thanks!!!
Hope everyone gets a huge refund!

I graduated with my undergrad degree in May of this past year (2007) and started my 1st "real" job immediately. Up until graduation I was dependent on my parents financially even though I held a part-time job throughout most of college. I lived with them for 5 months after graduation (moved out of their house in November) although I was otherwise financially independent; now I am in my own apartment.

Now that it comes to pay taxes for 2007, do I file as head of household, independent, dependent?!

Well my wife started a home daycare at the begining of 2007. the business ran for three months and made about 3400$ and she stopped because she became pregnant. I was wondering do we still have to report this earning since its very little and if i do report what forms would i use. I usually file a 1040 since im the provider of the family and we file jointly.
Any insight would be helpful thank you!

I started a new job a few weeks ago and I do most of the accounting. I am new to payroll and I need some help. Payroll is done through an outside service but I need to make a journal entry for the full amount of employee and employer taxes. How do I enter the employee and employer's share of payroll taxes?

When I say full amount, I mean for each payroll period- not for the year. I have the amounts for each payroll period from the service. I just need to know how to make the journal entry to record it in my accounting software.

I just realized that I possibly threw out all of my past W-2s, from 2003-2006. I am applying to school and need some of those forms for the FASFA, not to mention I need them for my personal file. Does anyone know where I can get copies of my W-2s?

If we are late on our taxes we pay interest to the IRS. Is there a date that the IRS must pay us back our tax return refund before they pay us interest?

it's just that I keep them offsite at a storage room and it's a hassle for me to go there and actually get them.

I have no problem with showing the IRS all proof of my deductions if I get audited.

I just don't want to go through the hassle of fussing over them to get them organized for the H&R Block tax preparer.

If I could just quote my deductions since I have a notebook containing my deduction figures, I'd rather do it that way.

So it's okay if I don't have all my receipts with me when I go to H&R Block then?
