I quit one job to go to another, do I have to wait until I get both of my w2 forms to file or can I go ahead and use my last check stub to file for the last job and then file again for the present ?

Or is it possible to have them delay a refund check - ask for documentation of deductions and then after satisfactory conclusion/evidence, they send me my refund check?

THANKS!

Hi,
I've opened a 529 account for my son recently, with the minimum funding of $25. Are there any tax implications if I fund this account before December 31? Will this reduce my federal tax if I do this?

I live in California, and I know that I don't reduce my state tax through my 529 contribution.

Thanks!

I am going to be making $37,000 a year. I am 22 years old, and I live with my boyfriend in our own apartment. I am currently paying rent, student loans, an additional credit loan, credit card payments, my car payment, my cell phone etc. so I need as much money as I can get in my checks. We get paid twice a month. I would like to claim 1 so that I can get more money in each check but I dont want to have to owe anything when I file my taxes. How can I figure out what is best for me to claim? Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!!

I am married filing joint. Annual income for me is around $15,500 before taxes. Wife is about $3000 before taxes. Around $12,000 in itemized things e.g. Interest on mortagage/ property taxes, charitable funds. No dependants.

If I itemize instead of standard deductions how much should I expect back in returns or which whould bring me most return back?

My boss has been paying me cash under the table, upon hire I was told shortly I would be added to payroll,41/2 months later, still no change.I was recently hurt at work that required me to go to the emergency room and I have no insurance.I can't even go to my boss with this bill because he refuses to even state that his cash employees even work for him.Meanwhile all the money he pockets from not paying taxes on his cash payed employees is pocketed for himself and lives quite well off of us.Remodeling house, trips, cars, etc. Because he has no "record"of me being paid cash I don't have a check stub to verify anything, can't get a loan, get workers comp, disability, nothing! I only took this job in the first place because I really needed the money and thought that I would be put on payroll already, what should/could I do now?

All of which I have receipts and documentation for.

My income this year was $29K.

I also have some back taxes that I owe the IRS.

Just out of curiosity since my taxable income is almost nothing now -- what are the chances of an audit even before they mail me my tax refund check?

Is that even a possibility? In other words, I file my income tax return -- then the IRS asks for my receipts and proof of all my deductions?

Please Help!

The FairTax is a bill in congress that would eliminate all federal taxes and replace them all with a 23% national sales tax. A rebate is issued to everyone for the calculated amount of taxes spent on the basic necessities of life.

My pay schedule is going to change from weekly to bi-monthly. Im under the impression (and hopefully im wrong), that a higher percentage will be taken out because the check will be bigger, even though im still making the exact same amount yearly. Hope this isnt true because it would mean that my take home pay would be less now. Im looking for clarification from someone who knows about this.

I filed my taxes early last year, then the next day after I filed, I got another form in the mail for unemployment. So I amended my taxes and had to mail the forms in. I didn't do it, so I am wondering if I can still get the money when I file for this year? Would I need to send that paperwork in? It wouldn't be anything for State, but about $300 back for federal.

So I will be itemizing my deductions for the first time this year because I purchased a house. I have two questions though:

1.Starting in January what 2008 receipts should I begin keeping? Really I'm asking what things I am able to deduct (medical expenses not covered by insurance, association fees, repairs to the house, job related expenses). I'm looking for a pretty general list or where I can go to find one.

2. My boyfriend and I both own the house (both names on deed and mortgage), can we both take the deduction or can we split the deduction? Would it be in our best interest not to share the deduction?

question for the CPA's who are in the tax practice.

I've got $35K in an former employers 401K (left that employer two years ago). Correct me if I'm wrong, but won't I pay taxes on the whole amount of distributions received when I retire (original contributions AND on the earnings)? (I've still got 24 years until retirement).

As opposed to a ROTH IRA, where I pay no taxes on distributions recieved at retirement (earnings are totally tax-free)?

What are the tax implications if I roll this 401K over into a ROTH IRA in 2008?

Thanks for any info you can provide!

On my paystubs for my job next to federal tax withheld it says 0.00. Aren't they supposed to take that out? Would that hurt me when it comes to my Income tax?

I am currently at a job where my boss required me to fill out a w9 form. I have heard a few bad things about it. I'm a single mother of two kids. I'm used to getting about 5k at the beginning of the year when i file taxes. I have heard that by signing a w9 it will affect this and instead of receiving i will owe! I'm so mad. My boss told me it's better that way. I think it's bullsh**. He told me that at the beginning and then told me he really didnt know how it worked and then i heard him telling another new employee you actually benefit from doing that. Im just worried i won't get any money back this Jan or Feb. I guess i know what the form is but will it really affect me? Should i seek for a new job? =\
