Small Business - September 2007

I am researching first so that I will know what I am getting into. I know most of the details regarding health guidelines, since I was in food service for many years. Now I need to know how to obtain the values for the lable requirements. I have the daily value chart, but now I am stumped! I only use 3 ingredients, so I don't think it would be too hard, yet figuring what percentage of each ingredient per serving, serving size, calories, etc is where I am confused. Are there companies that do that for you?

Her business is her artwork (ie. murals, paintings, portraits) ... and specializes in: fairies, dragons, mermaids, unicorns, etc.

DETAILS: Bought a large 3800 sq. ft commercial building in 2000 and have run a gift,stationary,craft & office supplies business inside it. The business was gang busters in sales...until two years ago. Now sales & the market are soft. I barely make enough to pay my mortgage. I virtually work for free. Have tried to sell it--lowering my price again and again and realtor for sale sign in side window by busy highway. No bites. I've used Craigslist--no avail.

So now I am stuck with a nice condition but large building, a business that is boring and barely breaks even. Can't find renters for a building this large. Can't afford to divide it in half. Savings going down the drain to pay building taxes. Sale of my inventory would not allow me to buy enough for new inventory--building is too large.

ARE YOU CREATIVE?? WHAT can I do??

If soo that i need college what do i need for it such as how many years and all that? Is there an easier way to get into bussiness without college? My company (35 employees in home office, with 10 employees scattered in 5 remote locations) is looking for a product/service that we can used in a web based environment to track important projects and collaborate on those projects. We could host the product on our own system or use a hosted package, either option is fine.

We do NOT want something over complicated, but we do want to be able to do file sharing, have threaded conversations, track to-dos & responsibilities, set & report on milestones, track whether or not key due dates are being met.

Managing the system should be relatively easy. I am the only IT person on staff and already have a full plate.

Ive already been in the paper once and only received two phone calls after a week.(I think it ended up being a waste of 40 bucks) I put up 10 fliers at stores/laundry mats,called schools to be on babysitting lists.I dont know how else to get business started.Is it ok to put fliers in peoples mailboxes? I'm looking to start a computer service business in South Carolina, and I'm on the fence between choosing an LLC vs a Sole Proprietorship. I've read up on the pros and cons of the various business structures, but I would like to solicit some feedback and opinions as well.

Starting up quickly with limited costs is a primary concern. Would an LLC cost much more or take much more time? I would like to begin within a month's time (yes, I have an initial business plan).

Some other concerns:

I will need personal protection either through business insurance, the protection of an LLC, or disclaimers.

I might eventually hire employees, full-time or temporary. This would probably not happen right away, although I cannot be sure.

I will initially be working with home computer owners, although I would like to expand to service other businesses once the company has gained a reputation. It seems that an "LLC" name might help distinguish from other fly-by-night computer services.

I run a webstore and need to calculate shipping for my products. However, I have quite a few different suppliers who drop ship for me and each is unique in how they charge shipping. I'm thinking it would be better if I charged a set percentage of the order total. Any ideas?
